Mushkin XP-650 Enhanced Power Supply Review

Hey folks. I just got Mushkin’s latest a few days ago, the XP-650 Enhanced PSU. This is Mushkin’s first of an upcoming line of power supplies, there will be some nice budget options and some higher-end stuff too!

I’m going to provide some pics, specs, and tests for you so you can get an idea how this thing looks and performs.

First lets take a look at some pics of the unit and packaging:
















The finish is a glossy grayish-black and Mushkin engraved on the side is a nice touch.

The cables are decent, especially the power cord. The power cord is very flexible and all cables are shielded to get the cleanest power to your components.

Size: 17.5cm x 15.1cm x 8.9cm
Sound: PSU is quiet, I'm not sure of the db rating quite yet, but I'll update when I find out.
Efficiency: 75%
Ripple: +/- 1%

The PSU has four 12v rails and boasts 528W of total power to the 12v. Here are the detailed specs of the rails:



A few features:



RailFusion sounded interesting to me so I requested a little more info on how it works. This is the response from Mushkin.

RailFusion will combine the 12V rails when the current draw exceeds 20A on any given rail. This is to prevent overcurrent shutdown (which plagued many higher-end PSUs when running SLi or CrossFire).

I did a variety of tests with the PSU to see if I could get some rail or vcore fluctuations, however the rails are very solid, < .05% ripple! Used prime to stress the CPU when testing with DMM and speedfan and also ran some tests with OCCT.

Test Summary




Unfortunately I don't have a second 7800GTX so can't test the unit in SLI at this time, but I will add some AM2 tests soon. Any questions or requests let me know and I will try my best to get them answered for you.

wow that gives pcp&p a run for their money. Would be nice to use a multimeter for voltage measurements though software is usually very off.

I did, see the "DMM" square in the table. Voltages were pretty close to software. I couldnt get DMM to fluctuate hardly at all so either my DMM sucks or its a dam good PSU lol.

So its Quiet? Is it audible over a 7800/7900 graphics card or comparable to silverstone ps's? This might be my next ps! Thanks for the great review, keep it up!
