Will WCing be needed for Conroe?

Or will the benefits be almost purely for quietness?

Im sure overclocks would go higher.. Ive yet to had a h20 quieter than an aircooled system. I just hate the heat dump air cooling brings to the case.

Watercooling will definitely not be needed. It really helps most when you run at high volts, and so far i've been seeing 1.58v on air and no more, so depending on the motherboard you may not even be able to supply enough volts for watercooling to make a significant difference.

So basically, you'd only do it for silence/whatever, rather than true overclocking?

    Hmm...

Fake Edit: Btw, would a Nf4 chipset cooler fit a nf5?

Bad axe reports 55C full load temps on TT BT @ default volts, although heatpipes are only a bit warm.

That does sound hotter than i anticipated kiwi, what idle temps?

I remember FCG mentioned that these chips aren't extremely temperature sensitive though.

for air cooling wouldnt the HPCS tech station be a good case

and shouldnt the DFI mobo be overclocker's must have boards?? i heard there r 4 of them coming with conroe support, and 3 of them before july 23

Edit: it should provide us enuff voltage to crack 5 GHz , i dunno, cos DFI has been good for OC, i dont what i will do without it

I don't think it will hurt anything. 59C makes me cringe, so watercooling would be a good idea but not necesary.

Sorry for the confusion, I was being lazy ;p

well its better than the air cooling, like Bigtyphoon, and if u get a 120 mm fan radiator its gonna be quiet, should be able to reach 4Ghz with X6800 and a DFI mobo

Idle temps are around 40C but I am pretty sure board reports wrong. Same on water.

At any rate, water should help with overclocking regardless, whether it is controlling temps better or allowing for higher clocks, or both.

I sure as hell know that I ain't getting rid of my loop once Conroe arrives.

I'm just wondering if the Apogee will fit.

yeah i tihnk they have apogee for LGA775, if it works for Prescott, then it should work with Conroe

Definitely, it's all about socket compatibility. The dimensional difference between a Prescott, Smithfield or Presler vs. Conroe is negligible.

What sucks about having an Apogee, though, is that is performs better on larger die cpu's.

Conroe is getting smaller due to the smaller fab process (65nm) (right?) so therefore my block is going to perform worse...

    I might try get a G4.

Friend: My PSU just blew up, I think the second 8800GTX might have been too much for it to handle
Me: what PSU was that again?
