it has been on some of the road maps, all of them saying that the only difference is the 800mhz fsb and the vt. I wonder if they oc well if it would be a very cheap, viable alternative to the e6600, just with less cache and no vt.

I'd say its $130 or so, the E6300 is $183 so it'd have to be significantly less than that

vpro is their energy efficient, stable, business platform. I think thats it.

it should have 8x multi so that'd be very nice.

I forsee it being an incredible Rosetta/crunching processor.

That's what I'd like to know. Also, with 800FSB it should have high multi and be uber-cheap. Plus it's a Conroe too! Not a bad alternative.

Where are you getting the 20x multi from?

200MHz quad pumped is 800...it's going to be 8x200.

it is 200x8 where as e6600 is 266x8

it will probably be a great overclocker just like the 805.

E4200 is scheduled for Q1 2007.
And imo low multy won`t help much - those shouldn`t have great OCing abilities. Would be great if I`m mistaken

Someone can clarify this? I have read few months ago that the 2MB cache models was single core and 4MB was Dual Core... Is it still the case ?

I don't really mind since I want an E6600, but it's just getting confusing..

they are all dual cores, this has been known since day 1, but some people who don't know what they are talking about see half the cache and assume half the cores. There will be a single core version of Conroe, but it won't be comming out for a while, also I think It only has 1MB of cache. Basically single core is now Celeron.

"Conroe-L": Core 2 Duo on the Cheap

Intel's newest roadmap has an unusual addition: Conroe-L. Intel defines Conroe-L as a single core processor, which we assume is based on the Conroe Core 2 Duo architecture. The most recent roadmaps have Conroe-L designated as a Q2'07 component as a supplement to Cedar Mill chips.

The Conroe-L processors are scheduled for a launch a full three quarters after the July 23, 2006 desktop launch. For other architectures, Intel typically has allocated the processor family across the entire board: value, mid-range and high end. Intel's 65nm Cedar Mill, for example, was launched as Pentium 6xx and Celeron 3xx at the same time. Intel's roadmap reveals that the company will attempt to place the majority of 65nm Netburst CPUs into the low end during the next few quarters.

Intel's Conroe architecture (described in the Core architecture launch) uses a dual-core design with a shared L2 cache. Decoupling the two cores is a more complicated process than simply "disabling one core." Pricing of the processor family was not revealed yet.
