    930D killed 520 ocz powerstream?

I just bought the 520 OCZ powerstream for my 930D just two days ago.

Been testing the system @ 4.0ghz, with stock volts.

It is on an Asus P5WD2-E, with the XFX 7900GT 520 extreme, 2 gigs of ocz 6400 gold, 80gig western digital sata, and a LG DVD burner.

I was running the video test: Rthdribl (Real-Time High-Dynamic Range Image-Based lighting) Version 1.2.

The test was like 5 minutes into it and then a pop with a flash of light comes from the OCZ power supply and the system went dark.

The power supply is toast. I put my 485 Enermax back into the PC and so far everything else seems to be ok.

What a scare. Hope the power supply hasn`t messed anything else up.

    Is the OCZ 520 powerstream too little for a 930D @ 4 + ghz?
Should I just take the power supply back and get another the same, and hope for better luck?...
Or should I get something different?.....like a 535 Enermax or something?

OCZ 520 powerstream is enough power. You could return it for the same thing or get a better one. I've heard of a lotta 520w powerstreams dying, they're just not very reliable as they come from a different company and OCZ rebrands them.

I recommend you go to the OCZ troubleshooting and support forum here.

I own a OCZ Powerstream 520 and have never had any troubles with it.
Topower used to make the Powerstream 520s but OCZ EOLed them for SLI ready models by a different company.

EDIT:I was misinformed, the Powerstreams and Modstreams are still being made by Topower.

Um an Intel @ 4.0Ghz uses a ton of power not to mention a dual core one. I had a lot of trouble with my Antec 450 Watt PSU (though it did not burnup).

    Wow!

Looks like a lot of problems with 520 powerstreams.

Hopefully the store will let me exchange it for a different powersupply. (not another 520)

well... To be honest... It depends who you ask. I went to one shop and asked them about the Enermax 620 and the Powerstream 700... They said they had heard bad things about Powerstream. Go to the other shop and ask them... They say Enermax has trouble. So I bought the Enermax because I could get it in two days the other I had to wait two weeks. Really I don't know that there is a lot of trouble with them so much as peoples oppinion or method of using them... Mind you I don't know if they are very good when you overdraw. I know mine can give an extra 60 Watts peak power over the 620 rated watts.

You had bad luck with one, probably a faulty one, the oc you made pushed the unit, just replace it with another one.

I will be running this system 24/7 at or above 4ghz. So if I actually "pushed" the powersupply with 4ghz and it blew, I certainly dont want another.

Did you even visit the OCZ troubleshooting site?

I doubt you "pushed" the power supply over it's limit. It was probably damaged in shipping just enough to break as soon as you stressed it.

If you want the absolute best in computer power managment. Buy PC Power and Cooling (PCP&C), noone builds a PSU as good as they do.

Do you know who's making them now? Did they switch to a manufacturer with an equally as good reputation as Topower?

you are liking your Silverstone I take it? I don't have any experience with crossfire and that but I would suspect that since Antec only goes up to 550 Watts they are not powerful enough... And the NEO HE powersupplies... Don't even tell me about those...

Other then that... Antec is a very good company.

The older 520W that weren't SLI certified are different from the 520W PowerStreams available now (which are).

But I think that should be enough. Probably a faulty one.

OCZ has the GameXstream 600/700W models. Those are awesome powersupplies without a doubt.

    Apparently I had been misinformed.

I contacted an OCZ rep and he informs me that the SLI Powerstreams and Modstreams are still made by Topower, but the new Gamextreams are made by FSP (just as Elisha said).
