    Am2 X2 3800+ Tests..

we just got an am2 processor and motherboard,,then tried to see
what can am2 do..lets ss talks..
by the way..thanks to Cem CUHADAR for his helps..

    system parts..

    AM2 X2 3800+@2.95ghz,@1.55v
    MSI K9N SLI PLATINUM
    2*1GB CORSAIR XMS2
    GIGABYTE 7900GTX
    TAGAN 530W
    WATER COOLING (10-20C)

firstly we used 7900gtx at default settings then we got an 1900xtx
and tested it on 3d 05..nf5 gets too hot if you do not apply extra
cooler on it..board also needs bios update,it turns off when you
apply overclocked settings , then you should wait for 15seconds
then you can turn on it..

here is the pics and ss..

Can you do me a favour? Drop the multi down and see what you can get for highest HTT.

voltage was 1.55v from bios, cooling was watercooling..max temp was 45c..
we applied 240*5= 1200 htt at default nb voltage,,but nf5 gets realy hot..
we ve used extra air cooling to be able to reach this speed..we hvent tried with low multipliers cause we though msi cant does much..

he isn't using air he is using water cooling.
yes we can see what it can do on water so now maybe he will do tests to see what it can do on air.
also where he purchased it from and stepping all that would be useful too.
then again an AM2 ocing thread just like the venice and opteron threads would also help too!!

    AM2 is a socket, not a CPU.

    Windsor: Athlon 64 X2, Socket AM2
    Orleans: Athlon 64, Socket AM2
    Manila: Sempron, Socket AM2

Thats still high voltage for water. Look at the screenies where it shows 1.6+ and 2.0+ volts. I dont want this guy killing his chip

The 2.0V + is certainly a bug. Nice report, even though the numbers are low we need these early reports to guage the situation with the new socket. Thanks.

i cringed a little hearing that am2 came out and i just bought a 939setup

but then when i compared super pi, my opteron 165@ 2792 is getting dual 31.235 1M scores. im half a second faster then the AM2

lets hope these things can take more volts and clock faster!

I wouldnt say an average 939 3800+ will come close to 3g, try more like 2.7. Does suck the PI times are slow as hell though

This socket is for no use at all. It just sucks. Gotta use the good-old Soc939 till conroe drops.

you re right this socket sucks a lot but it is too new,,especially board needs bios update,,i believe it ll be better than 939 ; but a little better..

these are brandnew boards and early bioses, I'm not surprised the performance is not that great as compared with the S939 boards.
Compatability and stability are much more important for motherboard manufacturers at this point, don't you think?
Performance comes at the second place.
Just wait a couple of months, until we have optimised bios files.

I don't understand how people can jump to conclusions that quickly by looking at a spi 1M time. Did you notice he's running 2T ? also tras seems a little high for max performance.

k8l will have to have either a large shared L2, L3, or just completely uber stupid fast to beat conroe in superpi, am2 will never beat conroe in pi

Do you know what size the NB is? The heatsink looks really big. I wonder if a nf4 watercooler will fit on that thing..
The results you got arent bad, but not really much different from S939 clocks. :/

Has got to be the board/bios that sucks, Opppainter's results were far better in both SuperPi and 3d mark.

    So far, Foxconn ftw.

From what I've heard so far, AM2 performance depends significantly on the RAM, speed and timings. Once AM2 boards get new BIOSes and DDR2 matures a little more, AM2 performance will increase. Not to mention the shift to 65nm later in the year, the introduction of other new manufacturing enhancements, and possible actual core revisions and changes...I wouldn't sweat AM2's performance yet. It's the price people often pay for early adoption.

haha I almost got that score on single core opti and X800GTO
    http://www.casextreme.net/pixx/benches/gto/33k_01.jpg

I really don't like the new socket, my X2 3800+ will keep up with it easily.
Unless you do extreme clocking you won't gain much compared to S939 (and even then it is not worth the effort)...
