Installing the Accelero GTX280 on a eVGA GTX285 SSC

    Hello All,

This will be my work log and gallery for installing, what could be the best air cooler for the nVidia GTX285 video card.

Since most of you have see the GTX285 without clothes on I won't post too many pictures of the nekked card.

The items I am using to install the cooler are as follows:

    1. Accelero GTX280 air cooler

    2. Enzotech CNB-S1L southbridge cooler

    3. Enzotech BCC9 low profile ram coolers.

    4. Enzotech MOS-C1 mosfet coolers.

I purchased the Accelero from quietpc.com UK since it isn't available in the US yet.
I purchased everything else from www.performance-pcs.com
Great Service and selection, never any issues with orders!

    On to the pictures!

    First round of pictures!

You can see in the below picture that the chip is somewhat larger than the heatsink area on the cooler. I was a little disapointed when I saw this. It may not make any difference, but I think that it needs to cover the entire IHS of the VGA chip.

Here you can see the overhang of the chip IHS under the Accelero heatsink.

    A shot of the clearance

Ram sinks installed. There seems to be a sight clearance issue with the top edge ram sinks and the cooler. I will try and get some other pics later this weekend. I think I may have to do some trimming of the ram sink pins to get the issues resolved.

Last one for today. I will have to file the mounting holes on the SB sink to get it installed. I will post more as I go.

Catch you on the flip side!

    Awesome

Looks like it will be a lot of work but worth it. Interested in seeing what the temp differences are from the stock HS.

Aren't there any heatsinks on the FETs on these cards? or to put it differently: Are you sure that the stock heatsink didn't make contact with the FETs in any way?

    Continued Install Pics....

Base wasn't as flat as I thought....

I did lap the base to 1000grit...couldn't quite get the courage to lap the GPU

You can see where I had to trim the Ram sinks to fit the cooler. PITA!!

These are the holes I had to file in order to get the sink line up with the holes on the video card.

I had to remove the fan assembly from the Accelero in order to "bend" upward the "wings" of the cooler in order to make a little more clearance.

Some trimming I had to do for the smaller chips.

    Talking In the computer!!

The process of getting it installed was a pain!

First, my sata cables hit the cooler fan, had to redo my cables and cross my fingers that the RAID would still function with the cables plugged into different ports.

Next was trying to install the physX card! Bloody nuckles to show for it!

I will be posting some testing results later this weekend. I did do a quick run on Furmark and I saw 57deg. I was O/Ced to 734 core 1594/1400.

Let me know what you think!

    Sweetness.

    Now volt mod

You inspired me to start a thread about doing something aftermarket for my GTX275 but nobody shows love to me and it remains unreplied

Do you know if the Accelero GTX will fit on the 275? I'd like to do basically the exact same thing you did if you don't mind me stealing your copyrighted cooling.

How long did it take to get the cooler shipped from the UK?

I think Arctic Cooling stated that this will fit the 275. I did express shipping so it only took 4 days to get to me. If you do the cheaper route, it says 5-21 days.

It isn't my copyrighted cooling, I was inspired by Retro. There should be effective air cooling for us all!!

Looks great. I had seen that you had ordered the Enzotech MOSFET heatsinks, but thought they would never fit.
After the trimming this question's answered for sure.
Now it's a really cool looking and hopefully literally cool card.

Looks sweet, I really like how everything came out. I can't wait to see your results since they sound good so far. I have to ask how heavy is that card now?

I don't think that you can monitor the vrms through software with a GTX285. Thats what all of that copper is for and the vrms on the 285 run much cooler than the 280 to begin with so they should be staying at a reasonable temp.

Nice work. Hope you invested in enough knuckle bandaids to keep the blood out of the system. Nothing smells worse than cooking blood, trust me.
