xoqolatl, don't waste your dry ice.
You won't be able to reach 1200fps Nature on the i7 @ 4.2GHz, if you have a Core 2 CPU, use that instead

I only have i7 available ATM. Anyway, dice is cheap and it won't be wasted if I learn something in the process, right?

Can't disagree with you on that
Just make sure you prepare your OS's images to run most of the benchmarks.

Hopefully I can organise a VGA for this comp before it ends, at the moment all I have with me is an 8600GT, not going to get 1200FPS nature with that. :P Need to harass the boss. I wish we could get some comps like this happening locally, we used to but they died out. Would be sweet if we could get a monthly comp like this in all major 3D benchies, maybe get some prizes sponsored etc? Worth lookign into i rate.

Small question as it's been a long time since I've ran 3d mark01.

How are you going to check the cpu speed ? I guess you start 3d mark ar 4.2 Ghz, fire it up trough a clockgenwise program to 6 Ghz, and then for the screenshot turn it back to 4.2 Ghz ?

At these clock speeds some tests are totally limited, and any discrepancies can be noticed easily.

yea we have 2001 eyes, we can easily see which test has been bugged .
because a card at stock wil score like 300 CH, then on 1000 core it will score 318 ish car high, so not boost almost from vga, if u up cpu we will see.

Well this weekend my card maxed out -125c and 1175 core for a brief nature, got me 1080 nature, which isnt enough . im guessing a 1250 - 1300 card would get it, or if i ran on rampage. But yea the gts 512 can def win this comp if you have a good one. Im out for single card. But i will talk about my 790i 2x gts 512 later . They reach 1400 fps nature EASY

    Cool.
on OT note, finally reached top 100! #97 !

Took my GTX280 under dice today.
I had to pop the lid to tame the temps:

    Final product of my tweaking:

Bottom line: I have lots to learn

I think a skilled tweaker with 1100+ on GPU core could do 1200 nature.

    That's true.
Only 880MHz GPU with Dry Ice man ?
Are you using a very very very bad pot or something ? Or just being conservative regarding your GPU's voltage ?
I never had to remove the IHS of a GTX 280, no need to.
+1 for having the guts to do it though

Unfortunately, there's a "barrier" in Nature that you can't cross without raising the CPU & UnCore frequency quite a lot.
    Nothing helps going higher.
Tweaks that give me 50fps more ? Nothing
    Higher GPU clocks ? Nothing

I'm using the best pot there is, TEK-9 4.0
Thing is my card is half dead. It was dead when I got it; I transplanted half of PWM circuitry from another dead card and it came back to life, but it heats like a furnace now. Voltages up to 1.44V didn't help, I ran into OCP or just core crashing with more volts.

Nice work so far everyone! Guess I should put up some kind of leader board or something. These threads go a long way in getting 01 scores up to snuff, doesn't matter what HW you use.

Best I can do so far on the GTX295 is 91K, need to go cold to get to 1400fps cap, and theres one small issue with that.
