There is a reference Asus BIOS out there and I have the Visiontek card... I am wondering if I could flash my card to the Asus and use the software for fan speed adjustment?

    Yes you can

someone already PM'd me for the Asus HD4850 bios and Smartdoctor software. So here is the link for the Smartdoctor program.

For the bios you'll have so wait untill i get home form work, or take al look on the bios collection on Techpowerup.com

chri5g, did you physically cut the mosfet/vrm heatsink from the rest of the assembly?

    Good work guys

Be nice to see a direct comparison at the same core speeds (stock memory speeds though), by the same person of 4850 vs 4870. Really need to see what difference the memory is making.

    No it will not.
normaly they have 10-20 turns and if you have max ohm and min ohm in 1 turn it is very hard to find the point you want.

well i did the mod last night.(micro vr) i was just MORE then careful with the resistance when i turned it back on testing resistance like 5 times before i would turn it on. and its just temporary.. i have a nice box of goodies coming in the mail tomorrow.. so i can replace it with a 15 turn.. but holy crap are the micros sensitive.. goes from 104k ohms to 30ohms with one turn. LOLOLOL.....

I modded my bios with the RBE tool. I tried to match the 4870 default clock. This is 2x4850 @ 725 core/1125 memory and 1.260vcore - all done through RBE. Crysis Bench Results ....

The 1.260v vGPU is measured with a multimeter? Can you post the modded BIOS? Can you measure vGPU during boot-up, 2D and 3D independently?

    Sorry for all the questions

you should checxk gpuz if the clocks are working correctly..i tried rbe and flashing . ccc and gpuz showered lowered clocks that what i put in rbe .
check please , maybey clock it down with ccc to stock and run the same demos and compare.. to see if rbe is changing corectly. I get my dual slot coolers in tomarow for my 2x 4850.s so i am excited to see if you got rbe to work.

You should take a look on the sensors tab (second tab), not on the first one.
The speed reported on the first screen is what GPU-Z reads from the bios, and does not have be the true clockspeed in some cases.

I discovered there is a gap concerning the mem speeds.
    1100MHz in bios gives 1100MHz in GPU-Z
    1125MHz in bios gives 1125MHz in GPU-Z
    1130MHz in bios gives 1125MHz in GPU-Z
    1135MHz in bios gives 1125MHz in GPU-Z
    1140MHz in bios gives 1125MHz in GPU-Z
    1145MHz in bios gives 1125MHz in GPU-Z
    1150MHz in bios gives 1150MHz in GPU-Z

These readings are reported in the sensor tab of GPU-Z, there my true memspeed would be 1125MHz, but in the first screen it would report 1140MHz (as was edited in the bios)

The same thing happens @ 1000MHz as reported in review on Techpowerup.com:
When changing memory clocks I noticed that the step size (with the software I used) is 25 MHz, so you can only OC to 1000 MHz, 1025 MHz and 1050 MHz - quite a limitation. After 1050 MHz the steps become smaller again.

Does anybody try the Vgpu mod with 50k vr? I have 2 of them and I was wondering if I can use just one of them?

It was the memory controller on the 8800GT/GTS w/ Qimonda that didn't like additional voltage. It wasn't the memory itself. The memory and memory controller shared the same voltage line...that was the problem.

I'm not sure if the 4850 is set up the same way, though. Hopefully, it'll respond nicely to some extra juice!
