Anybody going to try a QX9650 in one of these?

Asus has BIOS's to support the 45nm quads on their older 965's, wondering if Gigabyte is going to do it, or if they'll work with out the bios update.

Well, if gigabyte doesn't release a new BIOS before my Xmas bonus (next week), I'll be buying a new P35 or X38 motherboard. But I'll be going back to Asus this time, as they obviously support their boards better.

Asus has QX9650 support for almost all of their 965 based motherboads.

I guess thats what I guess for straying. I used to always only buy Asus & Abit. If I had bought an Asus P5B last time I could be happy knowing that all of the new 45nm quads would work in my motherboard.

fyi, this vdroop mod worked wonders for my 965P-DS3 3.3.
    http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=165877

My E4300 with its VID of 1.325v now runs 1.33v stock! Talk about on the mark. It was at around 1.28v before. This is loaded with Prime95. Idle remains 1.15v (C1E).

I would really like to see either a hacked bios or official bios
that supports fsb 1333 (all revisions not just 3.3).

Seriously the board can handle fsb 500 and i run that high with
a NB cooling fan. I can understand they dont want to release it
due to how the NB Heatsink was sold without fan and a small size.
They are trying to save themselves from RMA warranty issues if the NB
    fries.

But we need official FSB 1333 support in bios, I know we can OC it,
we just want the support so we can pop in new cpus atleast!

I'm waiting for this answer too.

I have the e8400 in my basket ready to purchase if it does.

If not I'm going to probably wait a little longer and just buy a new motherboard (Asus this time, who actually supports their mobos with new BIOS!!) and a Q9450.

On their website for the rev 1.0 it says N/A for all the wolfdales, but it also says that about all the 65nm 1333FSB chips. I think they don't officially support it b/c its 333FSB, not b/c of the 45nm, but I know people with 1333FSB chips on the DS3, so I think the wolfdales should work. I might try it....

Cool, but I can't read a word of that page?!

    I tried Babelfish:
If this still someone reads, I can deliver finally mine now mustard about Penryn on P965.
Besides noticed I am also owner of a 965P-DQ6 - my second, first had it in itself, PCIe x1-Bug of the finest one and so on - and can nevertheless the Gezeter not reconstruct.
I bought a 65nm-Plattform (!) and also months after the purchase still fully in such a way accepts. Me does not itch, da?jemand for a long time before Penryn gepostet, more da?dieser also on my board run k?te. At the time the mu?e initiator of this reasonable discussion any proof guiltily, particularly not the first time been w remain?, where in last second everything is again ge?ert.
I with the board also still another few J?chen to remain married, are evenly no power user...
And da?andere better customer service or customer orientation to everyone, which means, offer, because they do not want to have produced f?Halde, and therefore the advancement - we wait X48 for November after sell to d?en!!! - stop, do wrong to me. Da?Ihr your P965 more l?er keep and to X38 and X48?rspringt, accept it z?eknirschend. With the successor of X48 the play will probably?lich run and your Kumpanen will play beaming with joy along and will cry after beta f?Haumichblau.

Clear we are not here with Asterix and Obelix. In the industry there is no small, unbeugsames village...
Our Druiden has already for a long time a charm drink in the bag!!!
Nearly just as for a long time I am appropriate for the H?tlingen in the ears, to make which.
    And, what miracles:

From GIGABYTE it will give also Penryn support on the 965P-Boards.

    I have beta gotten f?DQ6, DS4, DS3P and DS3.

I let these test now again. And that is customer service, because:
There is beta versions, which ver?entlicht once, without any support runs.

    Thus, still something patience!
A clear statement of GIGABYTE have you.

forget the first part, he only complains about the attitude of some postes in this thread and why they so much that the 965p doesn't support the 45nm penryn.

It just get interesting at the red part, he says that gigabyte will support 45nm penryn on 965p. He allready got beta bios versions for the DQ6, DS4, DS3P and DS3, and he will let them test again.

HE also says that this bioses will remain in beta stadium, so no offical support from gigabyte is expected if you got any problems with them.

I doubt there would be problems to worry about just from a new processor microcode. Maybe @ high FSB's. So who cares if its beta... just deliver it already!

But technically the 8400 SHOULD work as a drop in even with out a BIOS update, and just identify it incorrectly. Now the 8500 with its 1/2 multiplier, could cause a problem possibly. But maybe they remapped all of the multipliers for the Wolfdales which could cause problems I guess for all 45nm chips.

So were are the Beta bioses is what I want to know.

I'm about to buy an Asus P35, but I'm holding off to see if Gigabyte is going to deliver for me. If they don't I'll never buy Gigabyte again.

Asus has had the Penryn support BIOS's for almost all of its 965 motherboards for a few weeks now!!

lol. Well, technically, P965 doesn't even support 1333 MHz FSB. It's possible that not all of their P965 boards can handle that speed, and so they can't make support official. Who knows what has really changed between the 45nm and 65nm chips? Thinking that this is just trivial, when we have no idea at all how these things really work together, is not necessary the way to go.

I would love to update to this, but everytime I go to qflash, it shows me a read error off my usb drive. I tried a CD and it doesn't work either. I don't have a floppy drive on hand.

But look at all of the Asus 965 motherboards that support Wolfdales & Penryns. Even quite a few of their newer 945 motherboards support the duallies (wolfdales). http://event.asus.com/mb/45nm/

I'm going to order an 8400 or 8500 soon & post back results!

EDIT: Well, 13o is okay. Just flashed it, and my Conroe is running fine. Retained my OC and all BIOS settings. Also shows the GHz next to the multiplier now, like the Badaxe does. Nice touch

Now where'd that qx9770 ES C-step go? Time to move on outta 65 nm.

    I had a Gigabyte 956P DS3 Rev.1 board which ran great with an E6400.
Couldn't get it to work, with any bios, with my E6850, the Rev.1 boards weren't compatible. No big deal, I bought a Gigabyte P35-DS3R for 133 bucks and slapped it in. Problem solved.
Now I have an E8400 sitting in it's little blue Intel package staring at me.
Flashed the board to latest F11 bios. Should have the 8400 installed by tomorrow, time permitting.
I'm sure it will work, right?
