    Northbridge cooling, ghetto style!

    Hi all,

The recent talks about northbridges got me going, but I haven't caved in yet to spending big money yet. Okay, the Thermalright isn't that expensive, but this is more fun!

    Northbridge Love!

Not so ghetto, but I like it. Haven't tested it yet though.

cplb, that's funny because I actually tried that, but didn't continue because there wasn't a way I could get the fan to fit proper.

Other options I have at my disposal: losing the second heatpipe and mounting a copper 1u speeze I got.

I could drop my video card to the second slot and mount a fairly compact all copper P4 heatsink I've got!

It would be like 220CFM being blown at your hand, or the other way around 220CFM being blown away from your hand and your hand being sucked in to it.

Oh I'd believe it. I've been thinking about getting one for my SI-128 just for fun. I can handle air noise, but not bearing noise. Any input on what it sounds like?

I'm actually thinking of running the VF700 on the Northbridge passively. Hopefully the San Ace fan on my SI-128 will provide enough air.

Unless you are using an ATI X19xx series card. Then you won't even hear it.

I have to point this out every time I post a pic that involves that fan: its not very loud. The beauty of the 2 counter rotating fans is that you can control each one independently with a standard fan controller. I keep 'em both at about 1100rpms, which sounds just like any 2 120mm 1100rpm fans. What's the point then, you may ask. The stacked counter rotating fans give it a huge pressure curve, I find works very well with a densely finned heatsink like the Big Typhoon.

I'd hook one up to a Scythe Infinity, but it might need some extra support, and I can't find one for a decent price.

Two 50mm Delta fans (11.4 CFM each) epoxied onto stock Intel Northbridge heatsink.

(Plus super-ghetto memory cooler rigged with rubber bands.)

no, the fans spin in opposite directions, they cancel out whatever torque they give off.

However, my ghetto-cooler seems to work pretty decent, my BadAxe1 can run 24/7 at an FSB of 467 MHz (E6300 at 3.27 GHz). The biggest issue really is that the those 50mm Delta fans spin at 5500 RPM and are a little loud at 30 dBA each.
