    Short guide and experience with additional insulation

    So if you would like to provide additional insulation to your hardware there are 4 things you can try (might add more)

    All of them are and must be dielectric!

    1. Nail polish
    * Cheap, $1 or for free from your gf/wife
    * Works
    * Depending on brand/type might be very difficult to remove especially between small SMDs and chip pins (even acetone bath wont remove it completely )

    2. Plasti Dip or Liquid electrical tape
    * Might be difficult to remove especially between small SMDs and chip pins
    * $6-10

    3. Silicon sealant
    * easiest removal (don't buy transparent color)
    * $2-5

    4. Luberex
    * very messy including removal
    * can be used inside socket/slots if you wish
    * not as permanent as first three
    * $7

    Where to apply it?

    Around gpu/cpu socket, another side of PCB socket/gpu area, generally anywhere where you would expect condensation to occur

    I hope it helps

    Where I work we have this:

    5. PLASTIK 70

    * transparant (good insulation not visable <-> RMA)
    * under 15€ for 400ml I think

    It's designed for insulating electronics circuits, so I don't think it's a bad solution. I use it (I get it for free )

    One can use multipurpose grease also, but that's not very funny to remove.

    3. Silicon
    * easiest removal (don't buy transparent color)
    * $2-5

    Why not buy a transparent colouer??
    Because it will be harder to se when removing?

    Is it safe to run mobo with isolation without extreme cooling?

    I want to paint my board with nail polish for some DI benches and later use it for 24/7 with AC. Wont it be too hot for some SMD's on the board?

    At first acetone, then silicon must be peeled off (easiest material to remove for me). Peeling off is probably the best way to do it.

    I have not tried LET but completely removing plasti dip was a nightmare. Same with nailpolish and luberex. Generally, plasti dip/LET should make an even layer and later removal is supposed to be easy by peeling it off. But that does not work always.

    ent:

    Yes it is safe, I run my board in nailpolish for a long time

    All you need is cross-linked polyethylene foam, here is my isolation for DI and LN2, there is nothing under that, just lift it of and thats it

    Dani where do you get that stuff? Looks a lot easier to cut than neoprene sheet.

    Ooh, sorry for nice delay
    Yeah, it's easy to cut with sharp knife, very easy to form it with razzor blade
    You can find it from your tent layer or pad (that thing you sleep on)

    T_M, no ARC press here
