that's why you gotta keep that tire low profile, not to exceed the diameter of the total length...

Wider is not better.. Being wide is what will slow down..

some 18" wheel w/ only 7.5" deep and low skinny low profile tire(P205) won't slow you down.. it'll be just as good if not better. The benefit you'll get is stiffer and more responsive ride.

Sure a wider wheel means more weight. But adding diameter is worse, as it adds more rotational weight...think of the centrifugal force. The faster that wheel spins the more that weight is worth.

And you want to add more rubber and less wheel, not the other way around. Wider tires help grip in corners and I can guarantee you my 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 Nittos have more grip than anything you have on your car. There is really only one benefit to larger diameter wheels, and that's looks. I won't debate that, but everything else is a downside. You will lose acceleration, mileage, and traction

Not to mention the price of tires.

That's why you gotta get lighter wheels!!!

and actually.... not only was I pointing about the weight, but being "wider" makes "more" contact on the road which slows down your car also.

Your tires are too wide and fat. you don't wanna go too wide

You may think so, but I don't. And try telling that to people who actually race and they will tell you to get off the message boards and get some time with a real car...

my uncle used to work for ford rally( back in days of jimmy McRae) nad he explained the whole thing to me about tires.

basically soulburner and iamanoobiecheez, u r both rite.ideally u want ur tires as narrow as possible whilst still maintainiing suitable traction for the level of power. the 450bhp sierra cossies were using 16's which were 8.25inch wide.

more contact in with the ground will loose u acceleration but too little will loose u traction.the ligther the car, the more narrow tires u can get away with.

btw wats ur deffinition of "people who actually race". cos sure thingsl ike nascarr u want wide ass tires to get all that power to the ground but sometihng like WRC u want more narrow tires so that it can actually turn.

It also depends on the application. For a road race car you want a straight, stiff sidewall. For a drag race, that will only work against you. You want a fat, tall tire for more "squishyness" so to speak. A tire can't bite and twist if it's too hard on the sidewall. Often times increasing the wheel diameter, forces you to run lower profile tires and only hinders your traction.

I like my 1993 Mercury Cougar XR7 V8 and I also think the Mitsu VR4 is a nice car. But I like wide tires.... Mostly I like rear drive with comfy seats.

year and a half now and absolutly no visablity into the car from almost any
    angle.

    My subwoofer enlcosure design log...

I'm starting the paint job, so far I've rounded all the edges of the box and sanded it
using 80 grit and slopped some wood filer on all the cut edges. After the wood filler
dries I'll smooth it down with 230 grit and begin the primer stage by brushing it on.

    • Miniwax Sanding Sealer Primer(brush on)
    • 4 cans of Gloss Black Lacquer for wood
    • 1 can automotive clear
    • Elmers wood filler

1st Primer Coat, mdf hella sucked it right up...

    10/17/06

    2nd coat of primer...

    10/18/06

3rd coat of primer and it's not soaking in anymore, I think its gonna be an excellent
surface to apply my Gloss Black Wood Lacquer. I'm gonna do another coat of
primer tonight and then tomorrow after work I will debate what I should do...

    10/19/06

4th coat of gloss black lacquer

and it's getting to be a really solid gloss black, but I have a few wavy lines that I'm
not sure how to take care of and I really need some help or recomendations on
    what to do...

    Black Lacquer ...

    10/20/06

I figured out the best way to get rid of the lines and that is to wetsand the box.
I got the supplies and will start wet sanding the box tommorow if the box is cured
    enough....

    10/26/06

Finished product, still gotta make a video

    11/11/06

Wetsanded the box with 2000grit for a ultra glossy mirror finish...

    Pics from 06/12/06...

    Hi-Rez Pics...

Smoking with Window Tint Paint for model cars....

They look solid black, but when you hit the breaks the red LED's shine brightly through the paint for a pretty cool effect

I smoked my headlights using (2) cans of window tint paint....

3M Buffing Compound is needed if I want a glossy look to them.

    The Bar...

    ¤¤*UPDATE*¤¤

I just added the new box to my computers sound system. I've got optical out from a X-Fi Platnium card to a Harmon Kardon AVR reciever sending a hella clean signal to the JL. Having a computer to adjust the sound of the bass makes this thing move some air and sound amazing.

    Click to play...

I've only got the volume up a tad and it still moves hella air :P

I'm using the amp in the HSU MK 2 to power the JL sub...

    01/22/07

6.7 cubes @ 31hz with 100sq.in. of port. for a 18" Fi BTL sub that can handle 5000watts. This should be loud enough to do half of what this does...

    http://www.realmofexcursion.com/vide...am/xxx15.1.wmv

Still need to make another front for the double baffle, after that I'm going to round the port and all the edges of the box with my router and begin putting it together with wood glue and my pneumatic nail gun.

I decided to place the sub on the front and double baffle it. I have another section of 1¼" dowel left so I may add some more bracing from top to bottom, think I need it?...

    I'm using a Planet Audio thats birthsheet is 2257rms @ 1ohm ...

This lil cordless saw is great, i used it to make the 45 wegde in the corner...

I was planing on painting the port today, but the weather is really crappy!

It was nice a sunny this afternoon, then this happened...

Either I've got a really bad case of dandruff or it was hailing outisde...

I did manage to primer (2) pcs of the port before the weather turned to hell...
    +

Not sure when www.Ficaraudio.com will ship the sub, hopefully I will get it by Friday, but since it's being custom made with a triple stack magnet and an advanced cooling system and every other option it takes a while.

    I work 8-5 M-F, here's my tasklist...
    • Tonight I'm going to round the edges of the port and outside of the box.
    • Tuesday or Wendsday I'll probably make the double baffle that's going to cover the entire front of the box, I will also have to make a cutout for the port.
    • Thursday I will wood glue and nail the box together.
    • Friday I will sand and get most of the prep work done to paint the box.
    • Saturday - Sunday I will start the procedures of painting the entire box.

I got the 18" Fi BTL in and wow is it heavy almost 70lbs just for the sub.

1.5" thick front, used a circular saw to make cutout hole for the port...

    my jigsaw cutout...

    http://media.putfile.com/18--Fi-BTL

Here's some pics of my Rockford Fosgate Power T30001bd that I just picked up for only $500 which retails for $2000...

    It does 3758rms @ 1 ohm...

It's almost as wide as my 7cuft box for my 18" BTL...

The box is half the height of my truck...

    Size comparison to 16oz Rockstar...

    Size comparison with Razr Cell...

Tight fit up the stairs, its hella long...

    On the office chair...

    It's very clean...

LOL, the guy in the video that drove up to me came from about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile away. He said that he was sitting at his dinner table trying eating and his window was vibrating. I tried to get the entire thing on tape, but only got the last half. At first he said what the hell is that and what are you doing. He was very impressed with teh sub and is a pretty cool guy be being resonable and not being punk....

Well, as the pictures tell, you can see in and out of the windshield just fine. My friend has a 06 Civic Si with the same limo tint setup and during the day its annoying, and at night all you see are little dots for headlights.

That should look really nice on you vehicle Soulburner.

Have you guys ever noticed how in the commercials for cars they allways have the front window tinted... check it out all but the VW do it I think.

I actually have 5% limo on the sides and back and (2) layers of Huper Optik 40% film also on the side and rear windows.

The Huper Optik film is what we used for the Mercedes dealer that I managed a tint shop for. I've got about $1400 worth of film on here. Just (1) 40% layer of Huper Optik has 70% heat rejection! and I have (2) layers of it and Limo
