The resistor/heat cartridge (250W@230v) cost me 35€. The variac/light dimmer cost me 10€. The copper was already there and the DMM was already mine also. The watt/curent/what ewer you might want to...
The only Chilly1 cooler I have had a look at had its wiring done by a qualified elctircian because the owner was too scared to touch anything as it was when he got it. I'm guessing they were pretty...
Too smal condenser for the refrigerant(might be a blend)+heatload->insane temps at compressor exit->copressor overheated->burnt the windings.
Filters dont work that well in -40c either so its somewhat useless to change the placement. They filter in both spots, but dont catch the moisture that good in eihter one.
You can wait for results with ethylene shortly ;)
The oil sep is gona be a must. The oil isnt coming out of the system that the refrigerant is being recovered, but from your recovery compressor. You dont want any oil in your refrigerant tank do you?
Or use your electrical wire cutter/pliers: http://www.biltema.fi/osteri/data/Kuvat/44_200iso.jpg
This thing might realy be intresting and informative competitions if folks just get the rules sorted out. I dont know if I will enter this competition yet, but I'm staying tuned :D
My thoughts on...
I did one of these. With 0w it was -49 with 160w it was like -34 with 200w it was -32 with 240w -29c... But those loads are very extreme. Before this I tuned with 180w and that seemed to be extremely...
I would never ever use plates or sheet copper to cap a pipe. I have made phase seps from 42mm pipe and I crimped the ends rather than braze a plate to them. I have made a tube in shell HXs with 42mm...
Exelent post there Grey :)
Way to go :)
IMHO making an DIY oil sep is ten times easier and quicker than draining all the oil and changing it.
Congrats Luke :)
So do you know the rough presentages you used? That seems to be very good blend indeed, and enviromentally frendly too :)
MDF, chipboard or plywood ;) Your moms chopping board...there are other materials than metal.
That aint no torch can :)
You are just insane :D If that thing realy works like we all want it to it may just be the best 24/7 machine around. I'm just worried about the small HXs working eficently enough. You might actually...
Man those temps are very very nice :D
It did have high startup preasure but when running properly it was quite reasonable. You might want to try with butane and propane to get the startup preasures lower. I was going to, but got bored...
It worked pretty good. 1.7hp and 34cc tough :D IIRC 180w in the -70c range with half of the compressor under ice because too cold suctiongas :D
SO no AC for me then :) I will not put that much money/efort into fixing it. Might aswell rip the condencer out of there to make more room for bigger IC ;)
I think Ill try to fix the leaking TXV joit myself before I will get an AC shop to look at it. It costs 100€ for them to even open the hood :D It has been exposed to air for an hour or so when I was...
1/8 tube inside 8mm(5/16? ). You can make the coil very very small:)
