Old technologies never really go away. I can see HDD used for backups in the future. We still use tape drives for backups in many enterprises.
I am not sure about SSDs, but I was informed by one supplier that all manufactures, even those without plants in Thailand will be hurt as many of their part suppliers are located there.
Don't forget that a lot of part manufactures are also located in Thailand. Just because some drives are produced outside the country, doesn't mean that they won't suffer as well.
