Thanks for the replies. Firstly, I doubt I will hot plug my drives but it is possible. When I bought my first SSD an OCZ Vertex 2 I had an Asus P67 Sabertooth motherboard. At the time OCZ...
It used to be the case that Hot Plug should be enabled in BIOS for all SSDs. When I upgraded my system to a Gigabyte Z68 motherboard the BIOS didn't have an option for hot plug. I've now flashed to...
Many thanks I appreciate the advice
cheers
Hi,
I have a Crucial M4 SSD in my computer. I've been trying to get windows 8 working but without much success. So far I have secure erased the SSD about 20 times in the past week.
Is there a...
The topic says it all.
From what I've read it used to be the Crucial M4 (Marvel Controller) but I've noticed that the Samsung and Plextor (also based on a Marvel controller tho newer than the M4)...
Really? Why would they do that when it is so unpopular?
wow so that would be the first SF drive that doesn't?
So does the Intel 520 suffer from SF throttling?
Does anyone know if the 520 SSDs have throttling enabled?
no i'm not having any problems but then I haven't upgraded my firmware from 0002 to 0009 yet either which is why I asked the question I did. All those having problems in the Crucial forum only had...
Are any M4 users here having resume from S3 sleep problems since updating to the 0009 firmware? It seems a number over at the Crucial forum are.
Seeing that the Intel 510 is based on the same Marvell controller as the M4, does that mean Intel will be releasing an updated firmware for the 510 or do Micron/Crucial make their own proprietary...
So Anand thinks the SandForce 2xxx and Intel 510 are both better than the M4. I prefer reliability so until a fix comes out for the BSOD and sleep bugs then I'll take the M4 or 510 first and given...
Actually according to the crucial forum, this latest firmware supports updating in AHCI mode.
cheers
so we have a better chance of a stable system if we stick with the X58 chipset boards until the problem is finally resolved?
Do either the M4 or Intel 510 suffer from the "sleep/hibernation" bug? This is important to me and the main reason I want to upgrade from my Vertex 2.
Fair enough. I was thinking of an OWC 120GB but keep worrying about potential SF problems. I'll probably end up going with an M4 or Intel just to be safe.
cheers
Isn't the Kingston HyperX a virtual clone of the OCZ Vertex 3? Does it suffer from the same problems (BSOD, freezing etc)?
As expected the OWC SF based drives do suffer from throttling as do all other SF based drives. Pity it wasn't disabled.
OWC have confirmed that their Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 120GB SSD does have RAISE turned ON. They also confirmed that the SandForce controller that OWC SSDs are based upon does support TRIM. It works...
Can they turn throttling off (they seem to be suggesting they have)?
I think the TRIM being referred to is on the MAC which prior to Lion, did not support TRIM and the only TRIM support was provided by a third-party utility. As far as TRIM implemented by windows, I'm...
i am looking at upgrading my SSD from an OCZ Vertex 2 to either a SandForce based 22xx drive or a Crucial M4. I like the speed of the SF based drives but am worried about their reliability...
So all the new 32Gb Die Size SSDs have no RAISE but the old 64Gb die size do
This may sound like a total newbie question (but them i am new to SSDs) but is there a simple way to test if an SSD has RAISE enabled or disabled like there is with TRIM?
