I remember when the first 64´s came out -- Anything past 2700MHz was outstanding..

I dont recall.. It was a genuine newcastle.. Thats about as far as I can remember - Average / good clocker at the time.

Sounds to me like a bad chip - Although I can recommend to take of the IHS - My 3700 was literally only just touching the IHS - I gained around 50-60 mhz on this going from 3040 to 3100mhz :)
