I would try it with just the 2nd card in the loop and see if it changes. My guess it won't and its something to do with the block. My 2 3gb 580s never go above 42 degrees and I run them in serial....

Pretty sure it would run fine but I also think the drives will run at the lowest read and write speeds meaning your vertex 3...
