Thermal performance should be no different really - the metal top will affect the bow a little bit, but not the actual thermal perfomance of the block itself.

They can be, but some aren't designed well and are a compromise e.g. Aquacomputer and XSPC tube res with d5's were better individually than as the combo. There's no reason they can't be as efficient...

They'll be coming, top cards always get priority though. EK said on FB that one of their 670 blocks actually fits the 970 (not sure which version tho), so there is always that too. 970 is so low...

it's the voltage regulator for the memory. All the blocks cool it, but honestly it never gets hot even if you don't.

Worth mentioning that on the new 980 blocks EK have gone with a jetplate style design like their universal thermosphere block and their cpu blocks. I'm hoping this should give a good performance...

Haha EK make blocks for almost any non reference GPU, they sure as hell will make one for a ref 980.
