GPUGrid dumps a lot of heat from the gpu into the case, which can raise CPU temp. Much higher GPU usage than WCG had with hcc-gpu.
hey I'm still around just been occupied with other and new interests. So goes life for me, interests come and go, intensify then fade, and eventually come back around. Luckily for the GPUGrid...

all of the GTX 660 Ti cards in my signature are the Gigabyte OC 2GB version. GV-N66TOC-2GD. Run very cool as long as there is an empty space between the 2 cards. Don't know much about noise since...
when you go to the windows 7 login screen, the video driver is switched to the "standard" windows driver... so BOINC can't see a gpu. you have to login to the account BOINC was originally started...

heh i have 660 Ti cards doing almost 400k boinc each some days on GPUGrid :p:
I would suggest to keep an eye out for sales on the 650 Ti. Currently around $150 but a sale may come up. It has 2x the shader count of the GT 640 and higher clock as well. Of course it uses 70%...

the wires going off the cpu fan looks like it terminates at the motherboard.. guess it is just a short wire plugged in there?

Those external cards in the link are simply to provide a connection for additional monitors, nothing more AFAIK.

de-select "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
in BOINC manager a couple of options:
Activity > Use GPU Always / Use GPU Based on Preferences / Suspend GPU (not automatic, you can manually select these when needed)
Tools > Computing...
I always make my data folder D:\BOINC\ (whatever drive letter). I don't change the program folder since we don't ever need to do anything in there and you can migrate by just copying the data folder...
it's written in OpenCL not CUDA, nvidia has very poor performance for OpenCL so far. Not sure if it needs code optimizations or actually nvidia drivers are just not good performers in OpenCL.
