Actually I had to go down to as much as 750Ohms finally to get only 0.02V droop on load with my Q6600

Why is the HD 4850 limited to only 720 Mhz (with the method 1-Hash)...at least 750Mhz or so would have been nice :(

Same issue with catalyst 8.8 beta in my XP install....the catalyst 8.7 on my Vista worked fine :(

I am having issues like you with the 8.7 beta. Just use the 8.6 hotfix instead of 8.7 beta and everything should be fine :)
Uninstall the 8.7 beta and use the Guru3d driver sweeper before installing...
