I think the target of all of this is the noise. Since I've never tried it, I don't know if it will remove the noise. It will take some, but will it take enough to make a louder/larger compressor...
I think it would likely take the 'noise' away almost completely, but the vibration would still be there. Most of the noise of a recip is that 'ticky' noise and I don't think it would travel through...
Cool :)
I mean, the heat dump of a compressor is a partial factor in evap temp outcome. So it's possible you can get slightly improved temps from it.
Your cooling unit may also smell like a...
Ok, I had no idea what you were asking :D
Um, 'pointless and messy' would be the new answer to your question.
A water cooled condensor is the best choice if you want the noise to be more...
Your picture's not showing up for me, but I know what you mean.
It's somewhere between phase and chilling if you think of it that way. Closer to chilling since it's oil instead of water, but...
I was afraid someone was going to ask that :p:
I'm not really big on selling evaps. There's still people that do, and that's more their thing than mine.
If I had to I could start putting...
Thanks :)
Wanted to say in case there was any doubt...
This, as well as the other stuff I keep posting about designs or tuning or whatever, it's all fine to use.
I mean, I like to think of...
hehe
You're right Peter :D it's not pretty but it's also so cheap to make that it's hard to justify.
I guess when I factor in the time, it's not a lot different in cost to having it machined. ...
So I know I need to clean the load test gear :p:
This is another load analysis, figured I'll try to do a basic set of results for everything I do, or at least every time it's a different evap or a...
Great to see you back at it!
Wow, some 'wrecks' to work with. Did you get any panels too, or are they trashed as well?
I'm sure they'll get the usual attention they deserve :) Anything special...
Well, a whole bunch of load testing. Not so much about the unit, more about the evap, but pics of shiney painted unit are never a bad thing :D
So I loaded it up to 200w and let it sit for a half...
As thoughts come to me, I'll keep adding to this...
In the olden days, we used tube-in-tube heat exchangers for cascades.
I tried them before taking a break from cascades, and the results were...
Quick add on to this...
Increasing the width of a stepper and locating the mass of the central column can really decrease stepper limitations with spread out/high load cores. Piotres has done with...
Not so much the 'less is better' thing. Just enough to do the job, but not so much that it slows down the flow of heat. Funny enough one of the primary weaknesses I see in the stepper design is the...
Evap basics...
Long it's been thought that an evap should be, and stay, very cold. That is should be slow to cool down with load. That it's better if it does.
I got to use a number of the @itor...

That's all in inches, but converting the 2mm OD of yours, you get .0787". I'm inclined to say that your caliper is reading just a tiny bit over...
Oh yes, compared to some other gasses it's not as good. But if it's free then it's great to keep it. Beyond that, even if you don't use it it's good to keep. Test gas, or just slowly build up a...
That's a decent looking evap. I mean, it may be a bit thick on the base, might not have great heat transfer compared to some, but it's sure better than a hollow evap :D
If the base is really...
I hope so...and honestly there's nothing I'd like more than to be proven wrong.
The reasons for posting this, and the posts on the smaller cascade setups, it's been about making better coolers....
I kind of liked it the old way. It was like 'time travel' or something if only a few days :D
If only I could click the 'back' button and get my hair back
So I've been in a position where I have to move for a while now, been holding off until I could find something ideal.
I found one, and I'm hoping to get it. Won't know for a bit (wish he'd just...
Those portable AC units are great for conversions. The compressor is pretty big but not so big that it's any issue and will give some pretty great temps.
Changing the captube to something like...
I would have, but the mach chassis was there and I used the side plates for other stuff anyways. Should show you the air compressor mod I did.
So it was half to make a case, half to use it up...
Pics of the framing's just plain ugly.
All I did was chop and weld extensions into a mach chassis. I got stick before for the 'ghetto' looking work so I'll just post the nicer stuff on this one....
Well since the unit that's using the evap is here already, not a lot of point in a new thread for it.
So a few pics of the case...
