FWIW, I just got the Biostar TA890FX board, and have a 965 running 3.8 stable, every day all day. Its not perfect, but for $140, I'm not sure anything can touch it right now

I still have mine, its powering my wifes machine. 3.2 stable for years. Not sure if I will ever sell it. It was the bargain of the century
Hey, where did you guys get that board? I can't find it anywhere.....
Been busy as *&^% for the past year or so, and haven't been here that much (former XS addict :D)
But now that we have...
I have the Biostar 760/710 board (TA version) and it runs as well if not better than all the 780G/SB700s I have (many btw). It seems to OC nearly identically to the 790GX/SB750s that I'm using...
They are all good at the moment. We have an embarrassment of riches in the mobo space for us AMD fans. Probably would boil down to the layout and the BIOS organization as far as you're personal...
maniac
pm again
Hey, sorry, just saw this. Been busy the past week. Nope, don't mind. Have at it!
Also PMd you
Don't recall there ever being an FX model, although there are still plenty of mATX 790GX boards made (I have several of the Biostar, and they run perfectly). DFI, Biostar, Asrock, Jetway all make...
Woulda sent that too! :)
You do more for us phreaks than 99.9% of the "expert websites" ever did!
Yeah, its not the best. Not sure if any of you guys tried Windows 7 though, I got more than 25% improvement with the stock drivers!!!!
Whats funny is that the 790FX can support 2 CPUs, but...
From Digitimes today
AMD to launch 8 series chipsets in January 2010, say Taiwan makers
Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 16 June 2009]
AMD is scheduled to launch its 8...
The power is the same as the M2R by the looks of it. It was Digital PWM based (threw off tons of heat). It was 6 or 7+1 if memory serves.
I will buy one for SURE if they make it. I just...
Finally the follow on to our beloved 790FX-M2R

I'm permanently scarred from many years of large scale EMC/Netapp/IBM etc RAID systems in my work life, so sorry I keep whining about this stuff :D
Thats sort of another thing thats been garbled...
Yep, I have one of those too! Another open box steal (mwave, $44).
I use it in my linux machine. I have to say that even though I have like 20 Gigabyte boards, I really like the Biostars a lot...
The Biostar XE is terrific.. I have 2, and am amazed at the value and performance, as well as stability
939 was not really a quicky, it was needed to implement dual channel memory (hence the increase pin count over 754).
It looks like they have tried to do a growth path with the whole...
I have a couple of those Bisotar XE boards, and they are remarkable for the money. Believe it or not, I paid $54 for a refurb from newegg, and it was BRAND NEW (I kid you not). I also got another...
Yep, they are the same.
Tulsan, if you need one, let me know. I have a bunch. I overindulged during the 754/939 period :yepp:
I just got the XT today.... I PMd you
The problem seems to be that the disk signature gets corrupted, which causes lots of other problems. In a RAID 1 mirror, I lost 1 disk completely, but the other one still had the data on it, that...
I've been doing some more testing, trying to narrow it down. Submitted a bug report to AMD, and also have some help from one of their testers.
It seems to be confined to RAID1 for some reason. ...
I was referring to 32bit RAID 1 specifically. My 64 bit system worked fine.
Don't know about that. I've been using RAID 1 for years (SB600/700/750) and RAID 5 since SB750 for the past year...
Here's a follow up.
This is in fact totally destructive. If you have AMD RAID 1 running nicely, with Vista 32bit SP1, and you innocently apply SP2, your machine will not boot. It will BSOD.
...
Update:
This is a total mess. There is no way to recover, even breaking the mirror (turning off RAID 1 in BIOS) does not allow a reboot. There might be one more trick or 2, but what a mess
