Its a function of many things thats non linear and very difficult to solve. There are simplified approximations involving hyperbolic trignometric functions.
The short answer is longer the better....

IMO, you have a working, 24/7 phase unit. I wouldn't loose that; id keep your vapochill and buy a benching phase change or buy a ln2/dice pot
Russ i'm not tellin ya what to do, but to others reading the thread i don't recommend using a piercing valve like this... I almost had some serious eye damage a couple years ago from a piercing...
