Just look back who was right last time with Fermi launch:
FACT
AN00BIS was right!
- almost 6months before GTX480 launch...
How does an outside company know more about nVidia GPUs than nVidia?
Regardless of size (+2 inch or -1 inch, doesn't matter), a lower power version of the Fermi would be great news!! Not everybody...
The deaf man following the blind man?
100 posts and 0 facts.
But from my experience benchmarking 30+ cards:
1. There is N0 standard. Nadda. None. WHQL ensures your Start popup menu is...
1st of all "physics" in games has been around long before nVidia was a company. You dont NEED a GPU. Somehow rockets in Quake3 and UT blasted off people on either Intel, Kyro or S3 graphics... it...
No. Both companies would be different. ATI was always profitable (or close) even as graphics in AMD during R600 days. AMD on the other hand was consistently losing money during Athlon and Athlon64...
nVidia was stuck in a narrow 75Mhz zone, between 574Mhz - 651Mhz, for many years. (From 7900 GTX, to 8800 GTX, 8800 ULTRA, 9800 GTX, GTX280 all the way up to GTX285).
Until a couple days ago the...
5870 is 2B transistors and spec is 189W (actually very close - like 200W)
GTX480 is 3B transistors and spec is 250W (in a dream world - in reality more like 300W)
50% more transistors, 50% higher...

4 AMD GPU = 3 NVIDIA GPU
Maybe this is why reviews have such different results.. depends on AA level.
So many times I prediced that GTX 480 would barely OC. That nVidia would have an impossible time reaching 750Mhz.
If so many people are getting 800Mhz+, perhaps 480SP and 700Mhz had more to do...
I want to put an end to the "dead horse beating".
R600 vs Fermi
both: hot, new DX, late
diff: Fermi is faster, not broken, amazing DX11 features/performance for future games, good MSRP (markup...
Computer history is whimsical and key pivotal moments seem to happen in August.
2002: 9700pro came out. $399. Same 100fps in Quake3 as GF4. Great AA performance. Nothing special. DX9 wasn't released...

If you start comparing products including their overclockability you end up with stupid things like Core i7-920 better than Core i7-965 (just as an example).
If you could "group" them,...
Assuming by April 12th, nVidia comes through with 10K+ availability, GTX480 is HUGE WIN for nVidia.
In some benchmarks its 30, 40 even 60% faster than 5870. I never expected 700Mhz, let alone stock...
eVGA has 725Mhz superclocked edition - how brave of them to increase clocks by 3.5%.
GTX480 - melt an igloo in seconds
GTX480 - helping with global warming has never been easier!
GTX480 - when...
TMSC 40nm is NOT the problem. Somehow magically AMD made a DUAL-GPU card with less power and lower idle power.
Last time I checked, 5970=4BT. GTX=3BT. 4>3 isn't it?
The problem is the design....
Around 150W for everything in the system except video cards.
This is based on the total power output of 57xx and 58xx.
+/- maybe 20W.
Thus, the two 480s are sharing 700W between each other....
My 6600GT also ran at 100C. But it was only like 50W. And the fan was stuck with dust. The 4850, runs near 100C on purpose to keep the fan speed as low as possible. You can tradeoff much lower temps...
Just when you thought your 850W PSU was enough for your stock PC:

It gets worse:...
Time to start another 100 page thread.
GF104 is reported to consist of 256 SP - half of GF100.
same number of TMUs - 64; and only 33% less ROP - 32.
Memory bus is down to 256-bit - the same...
looking back
Predictions that I made before...
- it would not be available in Nov.. probably not even Dec!! (they called me a heretic back then)
- Like PS3 CELL, was 99% sure wouldn't be 512SP....
Good news!!
Max TDP is **only** 250W instead of the 285-300W we all feared! YAY!!
Bad news!!
Totaly system power in Furmark is 480W (GTX 480 - coincidence): higher than 5970. Wow, thatsa hot...
Not a shock to me.
Afterall, I was calling it (another) $600+ launch since Sept (cause of extreme costs and precendent and all).
And kindly rebuking those "its gonna launch in Nov for...
These look *very* real. The other blue/gray graphs look totally fake.
1. DX11 games do very well. Very very good sign.
2. Fps remains high at high AA/2560. 99% sure new drivers will improve...
Anybody seen this yet?

ASUS GTX480 50% faster with overvolting!
Overvolting? Seriously? I thought we were working...
5890 can and thus will happen.
Virtually all 5870 (850Mhz) can max out overdrive at 900. Most cards do around 920-935 @1.15V. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that better binning or 1.2V...
