VIA Nano 3000 Series Processors "Can of woop ass for intel pin trail platform"

http://www.tcmagazine.com/images/new...parison_01.jpg "......VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator of power efficient x86 processor platforms, today introduced its new VIA Nano 3000 Series processors, bringing enhanced digital media performance and lower power consumption to Windows 7 thin and light notebook and all-in-one des........." http://www.techpowerup.com/107493/VI...rocessors.html http://www.tcmagazine.com/comments.p...=30660&catid=2 Well it does not have a integrated GPU but it does offer 1080P playback something the Intel Atom 2 does not offer "Max it officially offers is 480P" other than that i think this will perform more like the Atom 330 and can be a big headache for intel if Atom general performance does not change with Pine Trail platform. |
Just got to love these guys. <3

I love VIA!
I truly miss their chipsets also. I remember them showing off their Nano playing Crysis with a 8600gt :D |

quote the whole first paragraph instead of cutting the words at the end in two so as to not be able to figure it out? Thanks |

I mean: +1. |
Go VIA!
|
What would be great is if out of the blue VIA just dropped a bomb on the industry with something on par with Intel and AMD mainstream parts, that would be trippy!!
|
Does VIA own their own fabs? Just thinking out loud since they are still using 65nm and even 90nm on certain products...
Wouldn't it be good if they jumped over and made a deal with TSMC, GlobalFoundries? I think both AMD and Intel could have a fierce enemy with VIAs low-power architectures, especially on a lower process tech |

Edit - Smartidiot89 beat me to it |
First thought: But it's only a single core, only good for surfing & solitaire... :(
Second thought: Hold on! It's a single core that can run 1080p :yepp: It's tempting enough that I could buy one, but I'd like to see some reviews. Would like to know if it's enough for some laptop gaming, how good did it run crysis? anyone? |
0.5W W @ idle... nice!

Also VIA makes awesome chipsets which easily can run 1080p while maintaining a low power draw while keeping the CPU at a very low utilization. I so wish VIA was abit bigger than it is today:shakes: |

I wish they were able to compete with Intel and AMD :( |
The Nano looked very promising, too bad it's not very often used. I really hope for VIA that this changes now.

IBM has done fab work for VIA in the past, not sure if they still do. VIA's based in Taiwan, so maybe TMSC?
|
Dunno where they are manufacturing. IIrc the last VIA processor was made by Toshiba?! Could be mistaken though. What's wrong with chipsets at 65 nm? Intel doesn't use the smallest structures for its chips as well.

Wow, didn't expect this much love for VIA on xs, a nice surprise.
.1w idle is awesome for something like this, good to see that VIA is still making progress. |

New source and possible bench's added

VIA doesn't have too many engineers working on the architectures. Thats why it is quite hard for them to spit out the dual core versions of their chips at pace of AMD/Intel. Also partly the reason why it is harder for them to shrink down their chips.
