NF7-S extra power connector "ATX12v1" what ?
Hi all...
what is this power connector, according to the manual you dont have to connect this. But i have heard from several people that after they plugged in the extra 12v connector, they have had fewer CTD, LuckUp's ect. according to the manual "again" its only a power cord, so you can connect the "new" PSU's to in with the small connector. my guess is that the people that have had better "luck" after they connected this second power supply plug, is that they where in need of some extra power for stability etc. but this could have been done with a more powerfull PSU right ? anybody got a better idea of what this does or did i hit the nail on this one ? also if any of you actualy have had any luck OC'ing or other wise gotten extra stability after connecting it, please let me (us) know... since Vcore for the CPU is generated out of the 12V rail on the NF7, this extra powercord gives more stable current.
so, yes, the additional plug is for increased CPU stability. i think it has something to do with the own resistance of the PSU cables. u don't need it, but it's recommended. |
Ya just checked it out.. and so far it gives me an increase in FSB from my current 223 to 237 which is nice indeed...., and thats all on default out of the box etc.. still waiting for my CWC to be ready before i really tweak the liveing §§§§ out of it... *hehe*..

i thought that for amd cpu's, it (vcore) came from the 5V line? my, how things change while you go to take a leak....

Depends on the board design.
12v is generally easyer on the PSU, one reason that manufacturers are moving to 12v is that there are allot of crappy PSU out there that cant take the 5v draw of a modern CPU. Without the ATX12v conector all the power for your CPU is pulled through one pin on the ATX connector, this isnt ideal as you may get some voltage drop as a result. I hae seen dual CPU AMD boards burn up the AXT connector with 2 CPUs attached when the ATX12v connector was (stupidly) left disconected. |

Ya kinda why i connected anyway, and it seems that it gives a little extra mhz on the bus aswell so why not, but there are many users of the nf7 boards that forgets to connect this extra power supply.... i think that abit should have made it more clear in the manual that the cpu can benefit from this extra connector... kinda lame really... btw did you answer my question about what you paid for you prommie in dk ?, or did you get it post order wize ?... I think you might have me confused with somebody else re the prommy.
I bought mine from toofast (vrzone) for £300 in the UK. |
are you not the crazed dane with a mark2 prommie ?...
humm..., i could have messed this one up perhaps ? ;O) B/ |
If the power connector is there and available, might as well plug that puppy in......certainly wont hurt anything and as most agree it will benefit you.
Good Luck! Lvcoyote |
