You are a trip :D And I mean that in a good way. I enjoyed your detailed pictures of the interior...never really looked inside a Mac before...it's extremely well engineered..puts most modded PC's to shame...respect!
And what you are doing and how you are doing it is fascinating to me...I love how you simply rework and reuse the parts of the case that make it unique...I've seen a few G5 hack jobs that mutilate those bits because they can't see how incredibly cool they are.
Thanks for the eye opener ;)
I love G5 mods; there were several good ones over at bit-tech.net forums. Keep the progress coming!
This is quite fascinating I am really enjoying your work.
Hehe, thanks and you're welcome on that eye opener part :P
I'll try to remember take pictures as i progress with this.
Yea i've seen them all. There's one really good thread on InsanelyMac Forums:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...showtopic=4525
Thanks!
Just tested the usbs, port 1 doesn't work but tho it gives the light for usb key, port 2 works 100%. Btw i've no need for Firewire connectors so i left em out, and my mobo don't even support FW :D
Got it shorted out, There were one piece of wire between data + and ground, now both of them work :)
Great idea with the Psu
Awesome work s0lid! I really love what you are doing a true PC in a mac mod by the looks of it! And water as well right!?!?!
Subscribed!
Progress :)
Did 7 of these:
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Perfect fit!
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Next some epoxi and were done with the standoffs!
So mini atx boards only fit in G5??
Cant wait when u put DFI X-58 Junior here :)
Little update, mobos stand offs are glued:
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Rear panels portboard glued into it's place :yepp:
If one of those ports doesn't work i'll curse this project to lowest hell :ROTF:

Damn fine job sOlid.
Well here's pics with my sample mobo mounted :)
Yea i know there is some cables visible but they will be hidden under fans and rad :yepp:

Not perfectly centered but should the trick w/o problems.
Yea i know there is glue inside of that mini FW port, i failed with that...
Nice work and very creative!
Very nice s0lid.. tho I wonder who on earth can get along with only 2 rear USB ports these days
I got 8 and using almost all of them
Got the PCB done, small eh? :D

Oh damn it, spend this evening measuring that pcb and frontpanel, why even the powerbutton don't give any good readings at ohm area...
Well the reason is obvious... Pcb is mirrored :|
It's now:
http://www.aijaa.com/img/b/00452/3784420.jpg
But it should be:
http://xs537.xs.to/xs537/09121/mirrorpcb892.jpg
Well takes about 10mins to fix that and second 5min to machine new pcb...
Ok new board done and measured, works :D
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Next i need to start making cabling for it :)
Mods Todo:
Psu, shorten and remove cables.
Make good pracket for psu and pump. 1mm roster here.
Psu rooms cover.
Sleeve cables.
Ok, removed 2 molex cables and one sata cable, much better :D
Before modding:
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
After modding:
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
So theres only left:
2 Pcie connectors
2 molex connectors (pump and dvd/hdd drives cabling, yes there is already cable for that :yepp:)
8pin ESP, will be split in two when i sleeve cables.
24Pin Atx, damn i need to cut this shorter, maybe later.
Ugly keyboard :D
Ok back...
First the old pic which went missing from this thread:
El fatso, with old mountings:
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
With new ones, much more reliable.
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Mounted
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Psu & Pump mounting plate done:
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Next:
Make cover plate for psu & pump room
Make mountings for microres
Cover almoust done!
http://s0lid.bx.fi/kuva/powermac/DSC...size=1280x1024
Now only holes needed for psus cabling and hoses.
