I wonder if it is worth trying to get it to work with my 4870 at all. Or, is my 4870 simply not worth even messing with...
My 7970 is projecting 7209 ppd on it's 1st WU. Your call.
No, ATI foldign is simply still no where near as productive as folding with nVidia cards (which is still horrendous PPD/W IMO...), the v7 client should have no performance difference over the 6.34(my personal preference) since the same foldign core is used. The point of the v7 is more to make folding easier to setup/use and more appealing.

v7 is actually the only way to get the newer core16 WU's which fold MUCH faster than the older WU's on the HD5xxx and higher series. For example using the older gpu clients on my 5830 which uses I believe core11 WU's I get like 3k ppd, with the core16 WU's (11293 and 11294) I get around 7200 ppd.
Also the new client is pretty nifty and easy to setup and supports both GPU+CPU folding through the same client, it also has a very useful UI that keeps track of PPD among a plethora of other things.
good point, i forgot all about that, has been quite a while since I did GPU folding.
