Why is it that all the top end ROG boards have lost Firewire ? If you do decide to put them in .. please and please for heavens sake use a TI ( Texas Instruments ) chip and not those Via chips . A lot of people also use these ROG boards for their workstations too and would love to see the return of firewire.
Also i have noticed that the Z77 boards also have not got Thunderbolt. This is not very smarty guys.. top end boards should have every connector option under the sun and the ROG boards used to be like that .. why is this changing ?
If its not possible to put in a port on the back panel because of lack of space its cool but atleast give us a a header !
cheers and kind regards :)
Get us the amazing feature to use bootup cpu voltage on all recent ROG mobos, same like Rampage IV Extreme has.
I have used ROG boards for a long long time and I (for most) love them. There's many things to love them for really. Hat down for them. Probably the only thing that "surprised" me on the last three (Maximus V GENE, IV Extreme and extreme Z) was that if you leave the Vcore at default and raise the multiplier, they pushed 1.5V in the CPU which is crazy. set the offset to +/-0.005 and the voltage is OK. - could this be fixed in next BIOS revisions? If someone does not keep track of the voltage, you can easily fry an Ivy Bridge on air with that voltage!
If I had the option to tell what I want from a board, then I want a strong VRM, Good and usable BIOS (Just like the ROG boards usually do), NOTHING extra, I mean NOTHING extra - no additional SATA controllers, no additional USB, Firewire, Audio controllers, Nothing except the standard features of the given chipset.
A very nice touch would be BIOS configurable PCIe Lanes - for instance If I want the third slot to be x16, the first to be x1, the fourth x4 and all the rest be powered down if I do not use them.
Also, a nice touch would be dual Intel Ethernet controllers (maybe ones that are supported in windows server?), and by the way, who on earth uses PS/2 ports anymore?
Further, if the board has video out, I'd prefer a single mini or full size DP from the board and adapters to say, DVI and HDMi. If one needs more, will probably have a discrete GPU anyway.
It would be interesting to have more influence on the different voltage levels of the CPU - like IDLE voltage, various voltage offsets for varoius multipliers when speedstep is active of course.
Simply said, a rigid, stable, highly configurable board with nothing extra (but the two Intel NICs) and as many USBs on the IO, and the least other connections (like video) as there can be. I wan to chose my audio, my additional SATA ports (IF I need them at all).
This would yield a very clean board with a lot less traces and possibly the lowest (unwanted) power consumption amongst all motherboards. Oh, and I think you can save the EPU stuff too, It either does nothing, or saves a few watts and freezes the machine at the same time. I can switch off anything I do not use myself.
Asus, please get us ROG boards with black PCB in future, not dark brown! Gigabyte has this long time ago.
I have a Maximus V Gene...
- Bios Layout is crap. Otherwise seems good (maybe to many options imo)
- Asus AI suite is Crap imo. AI Charger causes some warnings in systemlog ...
- Fan management supports only pwm -> would like voltage too
Otherwise I like it. Nice features... but i think abit boards µguru features were more useful in my opinion.
well... mostly i like my M5G... but i belive it have annoying bug... -> the usb port will always supply power (vsb?) although the system has been shut down, even when i set "ErP ready" to "ENABLED" ... i know some ppl might want this feature (allways on usb) to charge their ipod, tab ect2.
....BUT please cut down all the power to usb when we choose "ErP ready" to "ENABLED" otherwise we can simply choose "disabled" (to have all the power back on)
maybe you guys (asus rep) can fix this on next bios update ...
oh btw i currently using bios 0881.
note : all the usb port, even the usb 3.0 all have the same this particular behaviour
regards
I just received a Maximus V Extreme and i7-3770k today to discover that the board wont post with my ARC1882ix-24 unless it is plugged in the black pci-e slot. When I put it in any other slot, the led stops at 95. The strangest thing is that my 1880ix-12 will allow the board to post regardless of which pci-e slot I use. I flashed it to the latest bios but the problem stays the same.
Areca has released a firmware to fix this issue:

Follow this link to learn how to update Areca Firmware

Would be wonderful to have a oc key that would do 2560x1600 instead of being limited to 1920x1200... and eventually allow the built-in leds on the board start and reset buttons to be switched off...
can we get AC3 support on all motherboards that have digital in (toslink/coax ports,) i also thought it was dirty to not have the good sound hardware on the m5e, i dont see how $100 makes it worth it for basically all the same but with no audio amp, no creative drivers, and a thunderbolt port. if it had the creative drivers it should support AC3, it would be nice to see that authorized in a bios update, i know it would cost some money to license but i dont think they sold that many that it would be a huge loss, i would even pay for the creative drivers.
Not sure if this is mentioned yet, but there should be at least 2 USB3 20-pin ports on the front of the board...so that we can have 4 USB3 ports up-front.
And, Give Us Full Control of the CPU OPT fan both in the bios and Fan Expert. I have my water pump on the CPU PWM header and my radiator fans on CPU OPT header, but I can only control the pwm pump. Give me the code and I will work on it myself, i'm a software engineer.
All I want in my Rampage IV Gene is a proper Fan Xpert like on my old MVG not just control for two fans (CPU and Chassis/front/rear). Otherwise I love my ROG boards :)
Hmm what do I think...
I dislike the power and reset buttons, I don't like the looks of them.
They look goofy to me, I'de rather it be in the style of some of the other brands or like the style of the cmos reset button on the i/o plate area.
Dual lan, I had use for this..
How long has it been now since pci-e has been out?
Isnt it about time that boards had a full set of of pcie slots?
What I mean is 6-7 16x slots per board.
No more 1x or whatever slots, especially since those type of cards fit and work just fine in a full sized slot.
Doesn't matter to me if they are a full 16x speed or not, just make them all full sized...
I also miss coax digital audio ins and outs.
I don't use fiber, its to expensive.
Coax is cheap as heck, very handy stuff, it bugs the heck out of me to see fiber hookups but no coax.
I'de rather have the coax.
Speaking of audio...
Do we actually need the full set there on the i/o plate on the back of the board?
Line in and out is enough for me.
The rest wastes space, they could be done with a io bracket and and plug in thingy to the board.
Audio drivers...
Take the ch4 formula board for example, theres 1 driver and it's never been updated.
I'm still using that driver :(, if I want the creative sound stuff I have to use it.
I cant use an updated via base driver for it because then the creative features don't work.
Thats all I can think of off hand.
AM3+ seems dead, hard to say what about future and AM4...
But...what about Crosshair VI Gene FM2+ board?:) Some cute mATX for Kaveri/Excavator enthusiast. MSI has here Gaming series for FM2+, ASRock Extreme 6+, Gigabyte has G1 Sniper
Need some LN2 with Kaveri, but A88X Pro can "only" around 1.9V as maximum. And Im not good for some voltmod :D
Crosshair VI Gene or Impact is my wish for AM4
i would really love digital audio input, my rampage v extreme just feels missing when the m5e had it. it should also come with temp probes in the box.
temp probes I have also in Maximus VIII Extreme I think. But its good bonus as flashdisk install USB (no more DVD :-) )
I think this has been discussed in ROG forum. why don't asus add a option in bios for users that has problem booting at certain multi when system overclocked to avoid That cold double boot at startup. I just hate that. will switch to msi as my next upgrade then seems they has sorted it.....
The poll says this.......Have a great bios design and great long term bios support
In reality it needs an option for this ........Have a great bios design and NO long term bios support
How about just fixing simple problems in older but otherwise great motherboards/products instead of just preety much dropping support because its not longer the latest and greatest.
The m4e p67 board drops all USB devices at random on cold boots still to this day. This is not a random single case issue. It was widespread for everyone who used this board.
It's rather annoying to power it down flip PSU off let it sit for a few seconds then power it back on just because I have no USB devices and can not even type in my password to login to windows.
A rather annoying problem for a top tier product.
