Strange question, I know, but is there one? Mail takes forever here and I'm dealing with someone really impatient. I hate to re-use the rubber pads that came on the stock heatsink of the Acer Aspire One. The only thing I could think is that someone here has tried to use toothpaste or something as a substitute. Do you know of anything?
Also, right now liquid cooling has almost as many people on as News and Intel... wow (both in the 70s).
u can use mustard but it drys and becomes non thermally conductive rather quickly

Toothpaste will last 2-3 days, if it's that urgent, use it :)
Bacon Grease... so even if it doesn't work, at least you aren't thinking about your CPU burning up, you are just hungry.
Make them wait. Seriously, if they can't wait a day or 2 for some thermal paste to come, they shouldn't be playing with build_your_own type of PCs. They don't want to be inconvenienced by having to wait, but they inconvenience you by making you break down their heatsink 2x :p:
Or just tell them their PC is broken, and to buy a new one lol

It has to be permanent, so what do you think... NOTHING or re-using the semi-sticky rubbery pads?
EDIT a lot of people are suggesting foods and whatnot but I meant more along the lines of materials. Like carefully folded aluminum foil, maybe only 3 layers thick...
Nothing. And that won't be permanent either. Try to tighten the heat sink a bit more to form better contact (as much as it can be good considering that you are connecting two really imperfect surfaces).Quote:

put to goey pad back on there... push it back around so that it is slightly thicker than it was and it'll work fine... hell... my EEEpc doesnt even have a real heatsink, its uses the keyboard backplate
