Such a big box for only a cpu.
"Third Party heatsink/fan required!"
-
Pretty sad that they aren't supplying HSFs for retail product.
-
ehh, idk about the whole no heatsinks thing :/
-
Well the market for an opteron is probable capable of installing their own heatsink :p, and most would want to as well.
-
It allows for more chassis specific HSF's, and if it's priced lower I guess its ok. But why does the box need to be full size?
-
Lower price :)
And why on xs are people worried about no third party heatsinks :stick:
"Grins while looking at own Scythe Ninja" :D

Pricing on those third party heatsinks is going to be higher with no alternative than if every processor came with a heatsink already. That part sucks.
-
Some manufacturers of server motherboards are shipping their own HSF bundled with mobo, also some chassis manufacturers are doing the same…
AMD is retailing Turion X2 also w/o HSF…
-
ya i guess that if the CPu is used in a rack the company will want to use a CPU cooler that works well with the case.
-
Good God, that looks sexy! i want some plz.
-
Nice green scheme on the boxes, I like it.
-
Alot of people complaining about no HSF... Who the hell here uses the stock AMD fan? Seriously.... This thing is pretty much an OEM, with a 3 year warranty... This rocks.

speaking of hsf, what type does it use, will any LGA 775 hsf be compatible with socket F opterons?

For a server/workstation processor, I would expect it to come with adequate cooling which meets manufacturer thermal specs. Are those third parties going to replace my chip if it burns up? Has AMD published a listing for system builders of HSFs which meet their quality standards that they will stand behind?

well, I hope they come out with socket F opterons for standard desktops cases.;)
-
New IHS. Looks more like Intels :)
Any word yet on removing them, or is that just silly, given the server nature of the chip?

darn I wish I was in japan now...

Well when you think about it, these are opteron cpu's and are intended for SERVERS. Every server i've ever built, either A.) The mainboard comes with its own specific heatsinks, or B.) The case/mobo combo comes with its own specific heatsink.
Ask me why I have a crap load of stock Xeon windtunnels.
