I setup my new i5 750, MSI P55-GD65, OCZ Gold 1600, and 4890 today. Went to power it up and smelled plastic. Shutdown immediately, removed all components except cpu and 1 stick of ram. Started back up and all I got was the phase lights blinked on, cpu fan started, then all shut off again. This kept looping until I killed power again. I tried the ram stick in all four slots, same thing.
RMA time? :(
Tried reseating the CPU ? Where does it smell burned ? CPU fan properly connected ?
Yup, tried reseating cpu, memory, and graphics card. No luck.Quote:

Yes, the cpu fan was plugged in and spinning for the half second it was on.

Interesting article; however, I don't think it applies because my system wasn't even capable of booting to overclock. Also, I checked the 750 for contact marks and the pins on the motherboard for bent ones and both seemed fine. Either way, I decided to RMA and try again with new components.Quote:
