I can't think of an accurate answer, but the cost shouldn't be THAT higher. Is just that the Server market is used to pay huge premiums for enterprise grade products, so manufacturers milk them. Intel also does the same with the enthusiast market, where in order to overclock nowadays you're pretty much forced to purchase a more expensive K series Processors and Z series Chipsets. And most seems to have no issue with that...
No competition in this range / Fab Costs / R&D / Their "Cash Cow" line in terms of profit per chip are a bunch of factors that are working against them.
Not sure if may start bumping into IBM's lineups on the high side and ARM stuff on the low side, i expect not yet.
In the floating space of the case, how do you get the tubes to bend perfectly at right angles and have it stay floating like that? Are they hard tubes? Sorry, might be a dumb question, I've never dealt with water-cooling before, especially that nice looking. Amazing work, it's beautiful. The OCD in me is satisfied for probably at least a month now and I didn't even build it! :clap:

I highly doubt that Intel's cost to manufacture Ivy Bridge EP has increased more than a percent or two over Sandy Bridge EP. It's the total lack of competition in the market that's permitting Intel to charge outrageous prices for CPUs. The introduction of 12 core EP chips means that many companies won't require as many servers and in Intel's eyes, this justifies charging 1/3 more. Intel will get what it deems to be its due and proper and if you're purchasing fewer 6 and 8 core chips by using a 12 core instead, Intel's going to charge more for the 12 cores to ensure they don't lose money by having you purchase fewer servers and overall CPUs.
The ones that really take up the bum here are the server manufacturers...like HP, IBM and Dell...they get hit with a double whammy. They end up selling fewer total new machines...and having the ability to drop Ivy-EP into existing 2011 servers will mean that some surplus 2011 servers may end up on the grey market as companies upgrade and consolidate. The availability of these surplus machines will also work to drive down the prices of new server hardware, further eroding profit margins.
Im disapointed, no 150W TDP 12 core 3.1Ghz Xeon E5-2699W v2, now i need only be satisfied of 130W TDP 2.7Ghz Xeon E5-2697 v2 :(
Why Intel, Why!
Simple answer is that Intel sees all 12 cores going into servers, particularly dense racks, and few rackmount servers have any interest in a CPU that has a TDP of 150W.
Personally, I really don't care at what speed they clock the top bin 12 core, its price, its TDP, or what model number they decide to call it. All I want is to have the damn things unlocked!!:mad:
Yeah, i think also yield issues and that there is not that many rackmount servers that need such high TDP processors.
I think ill buy two Xeon E5-2690 v2 or E5-2697 v2, multi-threaded performance will skyrocket and single threaded will remain pretty much same compared to E5-2687W's and maybe even better with E5-2690 v2.
My productivity will increase alot, less time encoding, more time cutting.
I can take bit extra performance from these cpu's with 1-2Mhz bclock overclock, i really wish they at least would enable strap overclocking, running these Xeons with 1.25 strap would be nice.
I really need replace EVGA SR-X with Asus LGA2011 Dual Socket Workstation board, so much quicker.
No, what you really need to do is to get the SM X9DAX-iF board like I have and then get your 2697 V2's and sit back and watch the sucker amaze you..
I have the 2670 V2's up and running at 3047MHz and performance is slightly better than the E5-2687W SB 8 cores at 3612MHz..
And 10C cooler and drawing less elec and oooh, just plain NICE! :D
Otherwise nice board but wont fit my Triple GTX680 setup due CPU location.
Next upgrade, Dual E5-2690v2/E5-2697v2 + Asus Z9PE-D8 WS + 3 x Quaddro K6000 + BlackMagic DeckLink 4K Extreme + Blackmagic Production Camera 4K

105-106 sounds fine, now if X9DAi is good as X9DAX-iF then i have found a solution, X9DAi.
Ok, hopefully they can make, otherwise choises will be limited to Dual K6000's watercooled or Asus Z9PE-D8 WS with E5-2697 v2's.
