So I got a HP Proliant ML370 with 2x 3.0Ghz dual core processors, and 16Gb of DDR2 RAM +CD/DVD drive for dirt cheap. I found some cheap 72Gb SCSI drives and popped them in and set up the RAID array. Unfortunately, that's about as far as I get. When I try to install Ubuntu Server 10.0.4, which is certified to work with this model, the server goes into a kernel panic and reboots. Does anyone have any suggestions?
see if you can dig up a hp smart start disk, should make it cake
I forgot to say thanks, the SmartStart disk worked. I got the ML370 all loaded up with Windows Server 2008 R2.
Great! there's another neat component HP's Proliant Support Pack which makes installing all the misc drivers / utilities / firmware updates a snap that you may also want to look at.

The Proliant Support Pack has actually been deprecated and they now use the Service Pack for Proliant. Genius. http://www.hp.com/go/spp
What makes that even better is that your ML370 G5 may not be support by either the link provided by Levish or the link I provided.

If your server IS supported by the latest PSP and NOT the SPP... then you won't receive any updates after June of 2014... or somewhere around there when they stop releasing the PSP.
