Confused by the Reaper HPC series - tras/mhz help needed

Trying to buy some memory and i have a choice of the foolowing

PC6400 3-4-4-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
pc6400 4-3-3-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
pc8500 5-5-5-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
pc9200 5-5-5-18 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)

to me they look like they could all be the same unit with a different profile depending on the mhz? is that how they do it?
Anyway as long as the pc9200 will give the same latencies at the lower speed i guess that wouldbe the one to get?

though i have a gut feeling to get the pc8500 as i fear the 18 tras modules may not like the tighter timings even at lower mhz

The PC9200 will most likely be able to run the tighter timings at lower frequencies, because they use the highest binned chips among the kits you selected ( I think so at least ). Though that does not mean that all those kits use the same chips, I think only the 9200 will use Micron while the other will use Promos or Elpida.
And forget about tRAS, it's not really important, you will only see a small benefit in SuperPI from running a tighter tRAS, but not for bandwidth tests or even games.

Maybe you could PM Tony or Ryder from OCZ to have a look into this thread.

Then you could also go for the 6400 CL3 kit. I would recommend to look for some tests/ reviews here on XS or on the net in general, to get a feeling of what to expect.

you could try Team Xtreem 6400 (non dark), they come with the famous D9GMH chips and easily do 3-3-3-6-2 (the command rate 2 is a limitation of my mainboard arrghh) in the clock range you suggested within the rated voltage of 2,2V.

but, since you want to get ocz ones, i'd say go for the OZC 8500 version, with ocz 6400 kits you have a risk of getting non D9 chips.

The 8500 & 9200 kits are using Micron D9GMH chips.
The rest are using Promos ( AFAIR ).

If you're looking for a good overclocking kit at a low price, the Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 is the way to go IMO.
