Will 4 GTX295 run well?
Well with drivers issues I think you would have to run winxp.
I picked up 3 cheap 280GTX's the other day to run on one of these boards for gaming as well as GPU grid. I was thinking about putting the GPU's under water because I see a few people complain about high temperatures causing damage over long periods of time. But getting a set of new blocks for three cards seems to be almost what I paid for the GPU's themselves so I'm wondering if it's worth bothering to watercool them at all because with that money I could get better CPU's.
Would three GTX 280's be fine on stock air cooling?
Yes don't waste your money unless you already have the stuff for the loop and can get the blocks really cheap like $50.
Neeeeed X5650 for cheap... please be 800 when you hit newegg... pleaseeeee. lol :)
Anyone think you could fit two NH-D14's on here? If not I think I would go for dual Megahalems or maybe Venomous X (not a fan of its mounting system tho).
Well.. retail build cost would be something like 1600$ for the chips, 250$ for the board, and maybe another 300 for ram, PSU and coolers.
Kinda steep I'm afraid...
This is the machine on BOINC btw :)
I apologize if i've missed something posted already in this thread regarding the use of this board in the enthusiast (OTT:))3D modeling / rendering community, but this is exactly the type of hardware I've been waiting for!
Most software renderers, mental ray, Vray, FinalRender, Maxwell, Indigo, etc., are CPU bound (press "render", sit and wait for hours) and can't make use of the power of one (or more) of the GPU's that are installed in a system requiring several computers networked together in which to "farm" out the renderings/animations to each systems' cpu's. This is obviously a hassle, buying and maintaining multiple systems, licenses, etc...
Now, there are several real-time GPU (unbiased) renderers on the market that will make perfect use of this type of board loaded with GPU's that won't require a damn renderfarm. I will be looking into either building a machine with this mobo, or the ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer board and run Octane and Arion.
Needless to say, I'm very exited to see what kind of numbers this board can produce loaded up with several CUDA GPU's and 12-24gb's of ram.

Interesting... from the looks of this pic I think you could fit two NH-D14's on it.
But mounted in a case... that'd be a lot of weight. Hopefully it wouldn't break.

You should be able to get higher than 20k ppd on GTX 275 if you oc. I havent checked lately since the ACEMD, but I was avg over 20k+ppd before.
4*GTX295's do not equal 8*Gtx275's That would equal 8*GTX260's a GTX 296 is quite a bit off from 2 Gtx 275's if I remember correctly.
Holy crap, past couple days I have been getting 30-35k ppd on my 275's
Yes GTX 295 clocked lower(maybe inproper wording on my part). I do not recall if you are in the grid or F@H section, but I guarantee the GTX 295 will not produce as much as 2 GTX 275's...I will bet you lunch on it:p: j/k:ROTF:
I will go hunting through past posts/threads to prove it.
oh  are we saying the same thing in a different way . That is very true that a GTX 295 takes up the same room as 1 GTX 275 and produces more. :yepp:
I guess what I meant was that the actual production of a 295 is closer to that of 2 GTX 260's.
glad we could hug and make up :p:. I am not very good with words:shrug:
However I can clearly say that I want a W555 System:D
Hey Dave just wondering on how your temps were holding up running WCG? If you could I would love a screenshot using realtemp.
Turbo off for all..Turbo is a nice boost for stock settings but when your up there, your up there and no need for it to be blunt.
1BOINC point=7 WCG points, so jcools 10K Boinc=70,000 WCG points per day
Awww golly Gee!
