Im still trying to find some thing I can use on this card to cool the core. Im pretty set on copper swiftech ram sinks for the memory. I was considering a zalman cooler for the core but Im not sure which will fit with out any modifications to it. I would aprecieate any advice for an after market cooler, even if its to wait for the release of some thing better.
the zalman vf700-cu fits. x1900 is basically the same as x1800, they're on the same pcb. the zalman would be my choice. it's quiet and effective, though I think only the attached fan won't make much flow, so I'd put an additional fan over it, to remove the heat more quickly. I'm getting the card, thinking of 3x80mm (24cm) fans on the side, the card is like 22cm.

I will keep it in mind but am curious to other responces on what else may fit.
that's the alcu version, u need the all copper one. maybe 5 bucks more.
If you ask people who have an x1900xt and a vf700, youll find out it doesent have enough juice to cool it.
If you run it @ stock it will overheat (85-90c). The AC Accelero X2 also cools worse than the stock cooler (but is much quieter as well, like the vf700).
The only option you have is to keep the stock cooler until the VF900 or a competitor is out.
well I will just use the stock cooler then for now. any one know what grit(s) would work well to lap the stock cooler?

That'll work. Id just wait for the VF900, but then again, its not a problem for me as im on water :lol:
I got a vf-700 CU LED and its pretty much exactly the same as stock. But the heat doesnt exaust out of the case so it warms my case temp. :( But its purty. :) And the ram went down 7C. :)
Zalman fatal1ty will look sexy on Ati red PCB, and red mosfets HS.
And perform even better than VF700Cu.
just visited the Zalman website...I see that there is a Fatal1ty FS-V7 VGA cooler...is this new?...anyone have any info/reviews on this?...is this better then the VF700-CU?

I have it...when other were complaining that it(vf700) wasn't enough for the x1800xt(eva2000)...the zalman cooler was enough for my x1800xt as well as the xl. I recently pulled it from the x1800xt, and i'll mount it on the x1900xt and we shall see how it goes.
the Fatal1ty cooler DOES feature a faster fan than the standard Vf700, but i'm pretty sure that the blue LED/all-copper version is just the same, without the red powdercoat.
And yes, it looks damn sexy...matches the red "mosfet" silicon heatsink.
DNOTTIS, did you remove the fan that the heatsink came with, or are you doubling them up to try to get more airflow?
when did the Fatal1ty FS-V7 come out?...is it new or has it been out for awhile now?...I bought a VF-700 CU recently...but if I had known about the FS-V7 I might have gotten that one instead...
I've had mine since early november. i think they were out before that. I picked up both the vga and the cpu cooler for the wife's rig.
the soon to be released Zalman VF900 cooler looks really nice...It is composed of a radiator equipped with copper wings crossed by two heat pipes, also out of copper...it's due out in Q2 2006

IDLE: 45c
LOAD: 86c
FS-V7, plugged directly into 12v 690gpu/747mem:
IDLE: 35c
LOAD: 61c

I think im going to order one. this combined with swiftec ram sinks I just bought = an extra $75.00 put into my xtx. Feels like a lot of $ in a way for a few mhz.
I don't know what Zalman's problem is with holding back until possibly June to release the VF900. what is the point of that? marketing? I would have thought it would make perfect sence to release it the same time the x1900's came out. especially when its well known then vf700 is not working with the x1900's. some have said their temps went up from it??
i suspect "more than meets the eye" with bad temps reported using these coolers...pretty sure it's just the standard ones that are not enough, due to the lower-speed fan. And yes, i had one of those too, when i first got this one, and on the xl load temps increased 4c and idle 1c. Minor niggles.
One thing to note, however...mounting it right on the large die area of the x1900's can be a trifle difficult. I found the best way to mount was by holding the heatsink off the gpu while attaching one screw, lining it up, seating it, and then attaching the second screw. Simply allowing the heatsink to rest on top of the gpu while attaching the screw allows too much lateral movement that will affect how you have coated the gpu with TIM, at least in my experience.
so the FS-V7 is not meant to fix the x1900xtx's? I will have to make it work, but like you said It seems like not messing up the AS5 spread will be a challenge.Quote:
