EDIT: I'll play along then
Whats up with the 3500+ and 3800+ Venices ??? Is AMD speed binning in reverse or are the 3200s clocking higher ???
Perkam
Well the other thread is supposed to be for screenshots only I think.
Awsome idea dividing these threads!
The Official Winchester Thread is absolutely useless if you just want a quick overview of the results achieved by our fellow overclockers...
Probs to you conrad, putting down a big job keeping the other threads clean... :toast:
So I see a lot of the 3000 venices doing quite well, and theres been some speculation as to the fact that the current batch may be good and a couple months later a batch of lemons which someone in the venice thread was saying was what happened with the winnies.........it's all speculation, but I really see that as a possibility, what do you guys think? It really wouldn't surprise me one bit, but then again getting a good OC'ing CPU is always luck of the draw
I pre-order'd a 3000+ today and I hope it will be a good one, just need a cpu to replace my nice 0433SPMW Winchester which died on me. I got a 0508DPGW but I sold it 30 mins after I got it hehe and ten minutes after that I ordered the Venice ;)
Nicke- How did your Winny die on you out of curiosity?
A few of the guys at Anandtech are getting so-so results. Seems like most of the 3800+'s are doing as hoped but the 3500+'s are a different story.
Well, I gave it like 1,7v in the bios and rebooted and it didn't post anymore, thought the motherboard was the faliure so I tried to RMA it but it was working. So I recieved a new CPU from RMA.
You know I've noticed that AMD is a headache when it comes to getting a good chip for overclocking and it's always USUALLY the first batches and then it turns to crap. With Intel I'd say it's the opposite for some reason. With each new batches the OC potential gets bettar and better.
Course I'm not saying that Intel's chip have a better chance of a great OC, BUT it just seems like people have to dodge less turds with Intel. I put up offerings every night to the OC gods before I go to sleep so that my 3500+ gets to 2.8 on my XP-90C... :worship:
I think winchesters were a fluke. I bet Venice will stay about the same average (2.6-2.9ghz on air) until the next core revision comes out.
im going to wait until somebody runs venice under DYCE and see if it OC well im going to buy it
Just to be safe (as some of these new Venices seem to be doing worse than the first Venices) I pre-ordered a 3200+ from NCIX.com tonight. I'm hoping for 2.7GHz on air and 3GHz+ if I ever get a water chiller going.

Hey guys , anybody able to publish their results benched on Venice in 3dmark03 and 05 ? I am able to post my results but anable to check the little box "publish" , u know what i am talking about . :( No problems with 3dmark2001 , only 03 and 05 ...
Seems like you can hit 2.7ghz for average on 3000+ and 3200+ on air so I'm hoping for for at least 2.6ghz stable on air. Just need a good replacement to my winchester.
I'm hoping they don't suddenly have bad batches, I got money for one now, I want a 3200+ retail though and monarch won't be shipping those out until the 20th. I will be watercooling mine and I'm hoping for 2.8GHz which I think is a realistic hope since I see a lot of people hitting 2.8GHz on air.
I had to RMA my first NF7-S v2 board because I fried it, and I think the one that got returned isn't as good =/ The RAM can run 266MHz I know for a fact, but this board dun like anything above 200MHz for the most part. Thought I had it figured out and was running 235MHz with an AGP Aperture of 128mb which seemed to stop crashes in games for a while, but I really can't wait to go venice and have 2.8GHz+ with RAM running atleast 250MHz if not higher. Can't beat their awesome memory controllers with great bandwidth
My OEM 3000+ LBBLE 0516 CPBW from Monarch so far is nothing to impressive.
In fact my 3500+ Newcastle is better out of the box. But Im still working at it, just put the Venice in last night. Newcastle was not Prime stable at 2.7, but was some what stable. Venice just barely loads Windows at 2.7 w/1.75vcore on good air.
I posted here a couple of weks ago with my Venice. It overclocked to 2.8GHz on air. Well I decided to try some new RAM. Some BH-5. It worked like a charm @ 3.65v. So I decided to try some burnin on these stick. I left them running Memtest86 Test 5 overnight @ 3.65v. Bad Idea :) Now my CPU can still do 2.8GHz with one stick in it. But as soon as I try to run Dual Channel it tops out at about 2.2GHz. It's not the memory, because I've tried with new RAM. It could be the Mainboard, but I doubt it. It seems that one of the channels on the memcontroller on the CPU it broken. Hopefully my San Diego will be here shortly to find out if it's really the CPU, or if it's the mainboard.
Since this is the forum of a lot of WR, hopefully I'm the first one to post a thread about a "Venice Homocide".
Edit:
I finally found out the problem. It seems I have killed my first RAM slot. If I put RAM in that one, it goes into BSOD over 220FSB. I'm currently using the two yellow slots instead of the orange ones that I used before, and I'm now back @ 2.8GHz with BH-5 @ 510MHz CL.1.5 -2 -2 -6. I didn't even know it was possible to kill one of the RAM slots. I'm using a DFI LanParty Ultra. Oh well as long as I'm only using two slots, having one out of four not working is not a problem :)

I have a hard time to convince myself that the cpu or motherboard got fried somehow, the problem went away with different pair of TCCD so it has to be the memory got cooked, can't explain why they still works one stick at a time either!!
what is the highest voltage someone is running on air with a Venice? I'm at 1.6v stable right now but don't want to go much higher until I know these chips can take it.
I'm building a new rig with the venice core. And I want to hit somwhere between 2.4 -2.5. Here are the specs. What do you think.
3200+ Venice
THERMALRIGHT XP-120
DFI Nforce 4 ultra
OCZ VX ddr500 1GB
OCZ POWER STREAM 520W
SEGATE BERRACUDA HDD
More benchmarks....2.862 Ghz rock stable on air is not too bad, still debating if I should return this Venice to Monarch after I received the 3700 San Diego :D :D

thanks alot bro.... I feel better about the 1.63v I've giving this thing right now..... :woot:Quote:
