AMD Trinity news (looks, its near to launch?)
-
I'm getting a bit excited for potential tablet/ultrabookish hybrids coming out later this year. I wonder if AMD will manage to pull off a design like this with their low power 17W APUs. I would take one of those in a heartbeat over a Intel one due to the better onboard graphics. I don't see the CPU holding me back much if I am only looking to do general stuff and the rare gaming session on it.
-
Basically the same APU layout but with HIGHLY updated processing stages.
I'm seriously looking forward to this one. If only GF had mastered 28nm....
-
1.08W Idle power, very nice!
Up to 800MHz fGPU explains part of 'up to 50%' better graphics performance.
Still, I'm not sure which socket this will use on desktop. Old slides were mentioning new socket FM2 but since then nothing came confirming or denying it. Anyone heard anything and can hint?
-
There are no solid info about the socket yet I think but it would be nice if it were at least backwards compatible with fm1 Llanos.
-
Hate to be that guy but when are we expecting these to be released? I think I saw Q1 somewhere
-
Mobile June 1st and desktop probably a little after
-
I'm liking the Piledriver 29% better performance over Husky.

Dam I have a build for a friend on a budget in mid-may that I could push to early June but I don't want to push him back any further than that.

Well paper launch is May 15th
-
Im thinking, AMD old plan was one year after Llanos, so...plans look more than good :)

Too bad I can't build my friend a computer with paper parts :) Guess I will have to go with one of their Llanos chips for him

well im assuming paper launch May 15th, but not sure which will come first...probably the desktop first and as manufactures finish their laptop designs a little later.
id definitely wait for trinity is looking pretty good
however llano is under going price cuts

FM2 since north bridge is integrated now
however i haven't seen any fm2 mobo's pop up yet? which leads me to believe it will be a paper launch on may 15th
-
Im hoping these chips give AMD a good share of the market they have lost over that last few years back. I would love to be able to market some AMD based systems to my customers that are inexpensive yet deliver on performance. llano's price for performance already seems like a very good deal so with the cuts it will only make them better options in my book.

Exactly why I wonder about socket! No leaks of motherboards, not even mechanical drawings of socket FM2 makes me wonder. Normally we have bits of info from motherboard manufacturers etching to release new product well in advance. Hell some e-tailers quite often were selling boards before NDA date or at least list them on their websites.

on the Trinity tech specs slide....what does 2.08W MM07 Power mean?
im assuming a max P-state power draw?
-
The 1 watt idle is very interesting... HTPC solution looks promising.
-
i think to make Llano/Trinity more viable on desktops, they need to go with Lucid or some solution that will allow the onboard GPU to be combined with anything. It doesn't make sense to buy an overpriced, rebadged Turks card to max out crossfire performance with these apus. I too am wondering if FM2 will be backwards compatible with FM1. Some early articles hinted that it was... and i think it would be in AMDs best interest to do so
-
This cannot come soon enough for me.
I hope ASRock produce a mitx solution that's at least of similar quality to the Z77 counterpart. Their FM1 mitx board wasn't all that enticing tbh and yet their visual scheme would go great with my build.:D

Same here, my checkbook is ready!

Family 15h Models 10-1Fh (Trinity) are only supported in FS1r2, FM2, & FP2 sockets by the default code.
I donīt know if it is possible to make it work in FM1 too by changing the code.
-
1x M-ITX board
2x sticks of fast ram
1x low profile gpu for xfire
+ a small case
= fun htpc that blows away consoles in everything from image quality to noise to web browsing
i might actually do something like this because you can also get a cable card and the cable companies charge almost nothing for it compared to a full dvr box. the only loss is no on-demand, which i almost never use anyway.

Lucid/Hydra
lucid MVP is an option
There is two MVP boards Asrock and a gigabyte but I don't see them for sale anywhere right now :/

I too want a Mini-ITX build - AMD APU + 2*4GB RAM + a minimalist Lian Li case.
Only problem is Trinity or Kaveri. The GCN in Kaveri seems too tempting, and its supposed to be ready by Jan '13 , although given AMD timelines that may be forever. I am also unsure whether the CPU perf. would be a downgrade from by PhII X4 B50. But the idea of a cute little box will haunt me till I build one.
