Just found a nice review between ASUS GeForce GTX 580 DirectCU II vs Gainward GeForce GTX 580 Phantom 3

I really like the review and the fact the results are collected during play. but what i don't like is the resolution they choose... 1080p? sure they want to review to reflect what most use now a days but 1200 or 1600 would make the review so much review:ish :)
I really like those guys :D
More than 1080 wouldn't really make sense since since display prices have skyrocketed for higher res displays last time I checked
Then again some multi display 3d action would be nice... its 580s after all and if all you want is 1080 then other cards would be.enough...
If someone can afford this card they probably can afford high end display options, they`ve should test it at 2560x and 3D 120hz panels.Maybe sorround vision also.At 1920, well, review is a fail.
I did have 2 Phantom on order was meant to be in stock today they have been put back a few weeks! Decided to cancel and hold out for 6990!
Yet another fail review. Why the hell not use 2560x1600+ and massive AA/AF to give the extra memory a remote chance to make a difference.
This just look to mutch skewed towards ASUS and the 1,5GB than show what the 3GB can do where it can be used.
Smells like something ASUS has ordered to show of its cooler.
I find this test interesting.
ASUS Scandinavia has announced that ASUS is NOT interested in such tests - test of which ASUS graphics is compared against other competetive cards, it seems it isnt a global policy then.
Did they not even push the voltage with Asus GTX 480 DirectuCu ?
Both of them are good!!!
i found it to be less of a review of the cards in question but more an in depth look at the performance of GTX 580's in general. I like how they have taken a very HWC method of reviewing cards now and that they added 3D vision to the mix. that is really useful for me as I am looking at going for 3D vision on my system so it's good to see that a single GTX 580 can handle most games with AA and 3D vision, that means my soon to be GTX 480 TRI-SLI will have no issues with it:D
i would have like to see some surround benches tho and maybe even some 3d vision surround numbers as im sure the 3GB card would start to take a huge lead...
I'd love to have a pair of either, but I dont need anything above mid range cards these days.
Yeah, a fail review, indeed.
Some of XS members are buying these cards, though, it seems, so hopefully we'll hear from them soon enough. :)
2560*1600 is crazy uncommon. Far less than 1% of the gaming population, 2560 monitors go for 1200 dollars or so and 1500 plus in european countries. Although a person can afford it, it doesn't mean they will do it. People put different amount of values into different things.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?p=4640437
These results showed that 2560 was a resolution used by 0.5 -0.29% of the population. And these results were likely skewered upwards because the results were polled from online hardware enthusiast communities.
On the other hand if you take the steam hardware videocard poll, about 6% of the directx 11 crowd spend more than 500 dollars on a graphics card and if you extend this to $350 plus, almost a quarter of users spend that amount or more.
People will spend disproportionate amounts on their videocards compared to monitors and 2560*1600 is still an obscure resolution. Calling it a worthless review is being a little too harsh considering it was unique in a few ways and may give information that other reviews do not provide.
I love sites that tests things for which they are not designed for. 3GB GTX tested at a microscopic 1080p resolution? LoL, of course it's not going to do better than other 580's. My grandma's laptop could handle 1080p.
Now where can i buy either of the damn things in the US?
You snooze you lose: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-098-_-Product
Same card as Gainward except 2-slot heat pipe cooler instead of 2.5 slot.
idk man... i thought the same but check prices...

2560 displays start at 1200$ now while 1080 displays cost almost 1/10 of that... so going dual display makes more sense than 2560 imo... unless you got b's coming out your nostrils everytime you sneeze :D
Uh, cause the whole purpose of the design of the 3GB card is for high resolutions? 99% of measly 1080p and below users wouldn't even consider buying a 3GB 580 for $600, and for good reason. Things are designed for a specific purpose. A ton of money could be had by selling to that last 1% if they corner the market there as that represents thousands and thousands of users looking exactly for such a niche card and testing the card at resolutions people would never buy the card for is pointless.
So... Direct Cu 2 version of GTX 580 doesn't bring anything really really good when comparing to other GTX580's ...
I was expecting much more from a those upgraded GPU & Memory phases ...
Meh... i don't know what to think other than ... not worth the big size of the damn thing other than for more silent operation ...
It's not on this review, but i was rather impressed by ATI Direct CU 2 boards from ATI, with the 6950 hitting 950Mhz core and the reviewer saying that he feels pretty confident that the card would hit 1000Mhz ...
Eitherway ... for what it seems without volt mods, the card just can't go past the 950-970 core ... so, maybe for those who really need extra memory, the 3Gb version will have much higher benefit than just getting the huge DirectCU II ... If you don't need the 3Gb, well.. or you like the looks of the card, or you can save a couple of bucks getting a reference... that, by the way, will be the perfect weapon for watercooling, since it's damn difficult to get water blocks for non reference 580's
Who does this reviews, seriously? All time wasted.
When talking about two VGA's that only differ from each other in amount of Vram, and cooling solution, the only tests they should do are:
a) How useful is Vram in hardcore configurations (aka at least 2560 in SLI or tri-SLI).
b) What kind of overclocks can you achieve
c) What kind of noise levels do you get.
The first point is not done...and to do the second and third its totally stupid to bench because....yeah.....they are the same card and thus will scale the same
Anyone found any place with either of these 2 in stock for sale in the US?
Seriously they should at least run tests like Metro 2033 @ 1600p with 4AA.
I disagree with you Sascha, it is not good for ASUS, as they actually do have strong products, it is not good for the end user whom would like to know a bit about the product before purchasing...
But maybe it is good for some of ASUS staff, they have 3 overclocker/benchmarkers hired at this moment, if each of them are to have 10+ pieces of top model, well, that is 30 samples less for media.
And typically, it would make more sense to get a sensational score you can write mail about to your business partners, and have on places such as hwbot - then actually risking that it falls behind a competitive brand in a review.
