AMD: 32nm issues fixed

At 22nm Intel will also use SOI and HKMG so AMD will be at a disadvantage.

Thats cut and paste pr for any company when talking to the money people, things could be going to hell in a handbasket and companies would still pitch the good story, any company.

oh wow really? i didnt know intel was going to be using SOI? well.....past 22nm; it does not look like there will be much of a gap between nodes for intel and amd. but this does suck for amd...and here i thought they were finally going to have a chance again? well process technology is not everything eh? i mean look at the Athlons and p4's?

yeahh but why even say amd is having problem if they cant back it up ... or even provide a clue .... as far as we know amd is still on track with its roadmap wich would mean no problem .. unless amd hid then problem for obvious financial reasons ... but still .. where did xbit get that info ??? as far as we know amd now has a clear planned introduction for bulldozer and other 32nm products ...

and the 22nm talk is weird because intel didnt even release sandy bridge .. and who's to say ivy bridge might have a slight delay ... i mean this article is another lots of known filler things and some other parts to make up an article ... i just gave my opinion that is all

xbit has been misleading lately when it comes to news? we just had the analyst day, so i thing the info we got from that is still valid for at least another 3-4 months ;p.

Yes, I have always wondered how come AMD has always these node change delays but intel never? Are the guys really so incompetent or what? It would be good time to start changing the facilities to a node that comes after 22nm and skip the 22nm node altogether.

.....lol its called "smaller", intel spend more on process nodes, than amd makes in a year. amd does very well given the disparity between the two.

You have to distinguish between which company gets the biggest performance boost out of a die shrink and which company makes the most money from a die shrink.

Intel won't use SOI at 22nm.

Btw Intel has almost zero experience about SOI in mass production while AMD/GF has a lot because they use SOI since 130nm.

AMD/GF's 32nm will be 5th gen. SOI + 2nd gen. immersion lithography + 1st gen. HKMG.

AMD uses ASML whose 2nd gen immersion is equal to Nikons 1st gen immersion, it doesnt really mean anything.

Also, what has SOI actually gotten AMD? Has it reduced costs and improved performance? If it has improved performance, then why do they not perform as well as Intel?

different architecture plays a huge role in performance ;)

ohh and ultraviolet is another different lithography tech wich will start to see its use soon ... 22nm and beyond

Pretty useless graph if you don't cross reference it with performance chart. i7-980X will destroy x6 1090T.
