This is shocking if it is true.
I cannot believe even Charlie would publish an article of this magnitude if he was not 100% certain.
His previous article is also very interesting nvidia will crater gtx260 and gtx275 prices soon and does make a lot of sense.
I would imagine a very large proportion of their $4.10bn turnover is driven from GPU sales alone and I simply cannot see how they can switch it off over the course of a few months.
What? GTX 260 / 275 are still competitive in their price ranges.
Another Epic fail from Charlie. Mods please lock this thread to avoid flame wars.
All one has to do is look at the source.
He's posted an article about logical price cuts, any blind man could have seen that coming. Now this... he's so lol. How on earth can anyone take him seriously... ow yes it's SEMI-ACCURATE
While it may be true that G200 and G300 are too expensive to make, I dont agree with the statement that its all because of "mismanagement". Its just good competition from AMD, they dominate in price/ performance with both the HD4xxx and HD5xxx series.
However, you might say that creating mammoth size chips is never a good idea, management wise.
edit: and of course the article is just dumb sensationalism
I'm not all that surprised. I mean, if you keep on renaming same chip for 4 generations with only fab process change, there's something seriously wrong. Holding PhysX exclusive for themself is not doing any favor either. And then there are prices where ALL GeForce cards are always 20 and up to as much as 50 eur more expensive than same class Radeon.
However i don't think they'll be backing off the mid end segment. High end, maybe. But mid end, nah. Mid end segment and low end bring the most profit. Sure you're not king of the hill, but holding that crown is expensive and you don't really gain all that much with it if the competition is hammering you with killer pricess on all segments.
lol?
After the *fake product* video card tech conference nvidia tried to pull off, It would not surprise me if this was true.
Hopefully Intel will be competitive with ATI so tech keeps moving forward for us gamers. :)
Funny article. Real Semi Accurate quality.
Charlie Demerjian is a TROLL, he looks like one, the 40 year old virgin strikes again. When will this BS about nvidia stop, someone quickly break his keyboard so he cant type this garbage again. From now on, if you quote a Charlie Demerjian article, especially about nvidia, how about including it in the title so we dont waste our precious time reading that crap.
nvidia is one of 75 (of 500) companies traded on the s&p 500 that has a higher sale price now than it did a year ago. They are doing fine.
he has been posting a lot of rants lateley. maybe he knows how fast this thing is. i would point out all of the errors in his article but its worthless.
It's the how do I attract 5000 readers a day article type
Am I the only person who saw past Charlie's usual charm and thought that this makes sense... IF the GT300 is going to Launch in November?
nVidia do not want the market flooded with old products when they have a new product to market.......
John
No business would do such a stupid thing as drop markets like that, Charlie Demerjian is a idiot.Quote:
NVIDIA IS KILLING the GTX260, GTX275, and GTX285 with the GTX295 almost assured to follow as Nvidia (Nvidia: NVDA) abandons the high and mid range graphics card market.
this is charlie u have to cut the spin, he is saying that they arnt competative with the current cards and they have no parts for mid/low, would any1 disagree
why not, there is no midrange or lowend from NV, u have a rebranded g92 or a defective 9600-9400. the only place that NV tries for is the top end and while thats what they seam to always do then cut up the high end to make a low end they cant seam to do it with the new architecture. i also havnt seen an announcement for anything but the highend coming.
NV already lost the chipset biz and i dont think that we will see any new parts from it, now no mid/low end gpus, it leaves them with the core high end market that they have almost exclusively made things for until the 6600 came out but then there hasnt really been anything else since that was good
another why not, if the gf300 works properly and can be cut down there would be no point for the g200 anymore and i dont think that they can sell the 2xx anymore in large numbers they are not competative and are still at higher price points than ati by a large margin.
effing awesome :D
Waiting on "Intel is also shutting down due to... defective HyperThreading cores" :D
Hmmm, that's one way to get sudden reader ratings!
Maybe they won't kill them off maybe they'll just re-name them.
