Hi guys,
I did read the guide, but I don't remember it mentioning the use of a biocide additive, so my question is if Im using distilled water would I even need a biocide additive?

Yes.
How about Iodine.. that works just as well?
You can use distilled + antifreeze. Not the best because of a reason I forgot :p:, but it works and is cheap.
iodine is fine. a couple drops of that stuff for purifying drinking water on camping trips works wonders.
Alternatively couldn't you just use KillCoils, also from Petra's?
DIY "KillCoils" are much cheaper and easy as hell to make. Been running 2 in each loop for close to 6 months now and have had 0 algae. I also noticed the tubing isn't clouding near as much since I stopped using PTNuke.
there called silver ingots

Bars would be like BARS big ones, but the common name for small ones are called ingots.
What i do is i drop a silver chain inside a 1gallon jug of distilled, and thats all prep'd for whatever i need to use it for.
K thanks dude.
... Or sheet silver...

10mm wide and bent just a little at one end to fit through the barb. Just got around to installing it today. I put the other half of the strip I bought in with the remaining deionised water. I wonder if deionised soaks up silver ions faster than distilled ?
The coils are actually quite easy to make, we made an entire DIY thread here. I've found the coils to be easier to manage than the ingots as well, but the ingots do work if that's the route you decide to go.
How much would a small ingot cost me?
0.4mm x 10mm x 300mm strip about £7 with tax in the UK.
Ebay could have been cheaper but I was unhappy at the various reports of silver plate sold as solid.
