Insulating with eraser
I have used the eraser for a while now on me boards. Replaces the liquid tape or nailpolish for me on boards that i want to keep clean (and im lazy :D). It comes of nice and since i started using it i have never had any problems with moisture. When preparing the Rampage for 3D i thought lets make some pictures :)
First me Dimas table with 25mm neoprene sheet for the back of board. I dont use tape/polish on back just the sheet:

Test to see if mount fits:

Forgot to make pic from inside socket but here is one with Gigabyte board. No grease (for LN2 sessions) just neoprene:

The eraser is very easy to remove and goes of without a trace. Only thing thats annoying is that it gets under/on the sinks & socket. I start with some tape to prevent the eraser to get under:

Some neoprene in socket and between fets/caps to prevent air on those spots:

Then put the eraser on just like clay:

Done :)

Backplate:

Thin layer on neoprene so the insulation around pot doenst touch the eraser:

Instal tube:

Neoprene and mount:

After an afternoon benching i took it of for air again:

Easy, clean and very effective

Looks very nice. Doesn´t the eraser shrink/crack or anything when exposed to very low temperatures?
-
kneaded rubber is some amazing stuff, i use it all the time when sketching, not the strongest eraser but works.
i put mine in the fridge to keep them hard, never seen them shrink or crack, but then again thats not super cold temps
this is a really cool idea
-
That is a great idea. I've tried different stuff and that sure beats white petrolatum or liquid tape. +1
-
It works great but it isnt my idea. I am not sure who was first it but i think either team Turkye or Italy.
-
wow that looks so slick, so does that setup to! sweet job.
-
I don't know what this stuff is but that looks real good loc.o :toast:
-
Thanks :)
Its kneaded eraser from Bruynzeel or Faber Castell.
-
Isn't that Blu-Tack?

But anyways that's great way to insulate mobo :D
Must try that out when we have an ln2 benching at next month.
-
Artist eraser is a good stuff, also useable on any V Mod area insulation and backside of mobo, cuts backside condensation under LN2 works... Cheap 'n easy... If u keep it clean, use it 100+ times, again and again...
contaminating with too much hand sweat probably could make it conductive!
-
WoW that is a very, very good idea !
Thanks for the great pic's and idea
-
-
wow. you probably just saved a lot of motherboards. namely mine.
so this will effectively replace the nailpolish/vaseline and frostking method?
-
loc.o, can you post up a link to this stuff? I have no idea whats it called and would love to pick some up.
-
it's art eraser.
get it at an art store =D
-
Art and/or hobby stores. This is a link i found here or this one.
-
ıts our ınsulation type :)
Team Turkey
-
Is this type of insulation also 24/7-proof for singlestage?
-
yes you can use 7/24 under cascade
but only use FABER CASTEL eiser
-
Great find team Turkye  It doesnt have to be Faber Castell though ive used different brands that do the job just as good.
-
some brands eiser can be conductor and some eiser hardly sticky maybe remove some smd or parts on the motherbord
( sorry for my bad eng. :D )
-
I definitely think I'll start using this from now on, instead of nail polish and frost king. The frost king always pulls some of the nail polish off, now my boards look like crap.
-
-
yep - I picked some DESIGN kneaded rubber last week after seeing loc.o and talking to him about it though I have yet to use it
-
Why not make a "Sticky" (about insulation/preparation) out of this thread?
It is a good alternative way to insulate a mainboard!
