Finally got my ram today from newegg.com:

Its on sale too for $184.99 after MIR which isnt too bad considering these will usually cost around $290 before tax and shipping.

Anyways I have some pictures Id like to post before I begin testing these in my evga 680i A1 board. There were rumors that this ram only supports P35 based chipset boards if the user wants to run the 1300mhz stock binned speed with the advertised latency timings.

According to other users here in XS in these parts of the forums, this ram runs D9GKX but we will see.

Sorry for the crappy resolution... my digital camera wasnt with me and all I had was an old Logitech Quickcam to work with.

Newegg shipped it really nice and weighed it in at 1.0lb with a fairly large cardboard box for a tiny little package kit of 2 RAM modules... Ive heard that the models of TG that come with those thermalright heat spreaders are shipped without a covering TG box and instead just an anti static bag over the RAM modules and the heat spreaders... I was worried I would get something like that but it turns out just like the 1066, and 1200 models, I got a nice little green box with a pretty nice and thick black foam keeping the RAM modules secured from any movement or scratches because in fact the 2 RAM modules were separated by a dividing strip of thick black foam....

No evidence of D9GKX yet but later I will unscrew the heatspreaders off to place my own.

Now for some testing...

I also noticed there are ICs on both sides of the PCB... and the stock heatspreader has 2 small screws that are located on the front which can be used to remove the front portion of the heatspreader but I am unsure of the back as both the front and back have separate plates if you will that connect via the 2 screws.

Anyways Ill find that out later... back to testing...

Before I begin, I think everyone should know that the screws located on the heatspreaders were NOT tightened enough and as result when installing the RAM modules the actual PCB w/ all the ICs came loose out of the heatspreaders as if it just "slipped out"

This was extremely annoying since I had to find an extremely tiny screw driver to fit the screws and then remount the PCB w/ ICs (the ram module itself) back into the heatspreader and then push them together on both sides AND I had to hold them together while installing them into my System Chasis on the motherboard; which is a complete annoyance when everything else on the motherboard is mounted already and so with big hands I have to somehow reach inside and get it placed and installed properly.... very annoying!

On much more positive note, both sides of the heatspreaders contain TIM tape pre applied to the heatspreaders but NOT on the RAM ICs which I found a little annoying as well... furthermore the TIM tape only extends far enough to reach every IC but the last one as it does not fully cover the last IC.... more like just half of it with proper remounting of the heatspreaders.... also for those of you that have this ram or are thinking of getting it, I would highly recommend remounting the heatspreaders and tightening the screws prior to attempting any installations.

I tried to boot right off the bat with CL3-4-4-4-10-2T @ 2.1v but sadly it did not work and I have a good idea as to why... the TIM needs to go through a brake in period and settle in since its still cold to the touch and rarely contains any "stickyness" if you will.... that leads me to ask you experts, what programs do you use to stress out new RAM to break in the stock TIM to get it moving?

First results are posted... oh and I just noticed I am running MemSet 3.2... where do I get 3.3 from?

This time I just wanted to test the voltage to see if the rumors of the 680is killing the D9s is true.... so far its not.

So was it gkx ?
The Heatspreads on they team x are the aluminum ?
Not impressiv for such expensive/higend ram.
I memstested my crucial 10th anniversary, one did 525 4.4.3.4 and the other 530 with 2.3v

You should be able to get the timings MUCH tighter than that. After all, these are rated for 5-5-5 @ 1300MHz no?

'Ouch' new heatsinks are horrible. I so much loved Thermalright constructions came with Team Group high-end products. I remeber beautiful times with my Teams PC9600... very nice set :rolleyes:

Have you tried running DDR2-1300MHz @5-5-5-15 latencies?

666? then its not gkx.... gkx doesnt scale above cas5...
the difference from 555 to 666 is maybe 2mhz or so :P
so yeah try running 1300 555, if its gkx it should work, but seeing as they seem to scale with trp and trcd set to even 7(!) i doubt this is micron based mem...

maybe its promos? must be really well handpicked promos tho...

These are gkx.

I just did not push them to their limit yet since I wanted to figure out how to get the stock heatspreaders going.... remember I said earlier they came off when I was installing the RAM. I was forced to unscrew the 2 sides of the heatspreaders apart and then remount them on carefully making as much contact with all the ICs and YES when I did this it said D9GKX on the ICs.

These modules by TG are rated for DDR2 1300 CL6-6-6-18 (2.35 - 2.45v)

And I still think the TIM behind the heatspreaders has not cured yet or kicked in although when I touched the heatspreaders after shutting down the PC last night it was a little warm but I expected 'hot' since I was pushing 2.45v (the maximum allowed voltage per the specs of the RAM on the box it came in by TG) I am going to try and push to 1400Mhz today and then afterwards Ill play around with the timings for something tighter like CL4 @ 1200Mhz ... also I still cannot find where to download Memset 3.3 from..

Now I was curious as to why this link did not work so I went on to the home page of TG and then to the RAM page only to find my RAM is not listed:

Maybe newegg just forgot to ship the thermalright heatspreaders because look at the picture on the product page now at TG site as it shows these images:

You will notice that I did in fact receive the green box but I did not get any other box like the thermalright one. Its the same RAM at same rated specs though.

Should I contact TG about this?

Just remove the heat spreaders and put a fan over them. They'll probably run cooler that way anyhow. ;)

Hmmm... at 2.45v Im not sure thats a good idea but hey I think the stock heatspreaders are not even working at full efficiency because everytime I try and boot at any speed over 1300Mhz effective (650Mhz DDR2) when it comes time to load windows I get this weird error that says some file is missing or corrupt and it prompts me to repair the Windows installation using the Recovery or Repair option with the original windows CD.

I think this is happening simply because I have not reformatted my PC in a very long time and there is a bunch of times I have overclocked my entire system and windows gave hiccups/BSODs for a number of occasions now....

Anyways see below for new results.

Note: MemSet 3.4 will NOT recognize any values of tRTC & tRP beyond "7" In fact in the eVga bios (P31) there are no manual options for values beyond "7" I was able to obtain the above values using auto mode for tRTC & tRP :D

The board I am using eVga 680i A1 (not sure why CPUZ shows it as A2) has a lock in the bios to only allow for up to 1400Mhz effective (700Mhz DDR2).

Is there any way to overcome this because I can POST past 1300Mhz effective with no problem at all?

I only use thermale grease not Thermal Pads.

649.5Mhz seemed to work at CL5-7-7-31-2T@2.45v
*Remember the box of the RAM says that speed is only achieved at CL6-6-6-18 (2.35 - 2.45v)

But I was later able to achieve the same under CL5-5-5-18-2T@2.45v

Now with CL4-8-8-26-2T@2.50v I was able to achieve 572.3Mhz, 587.4Mhz. Infact see below:
