Gigabyte P35-DQ6... 500MHz FSB NO PROBLEM! + dual 32M 603MHz 4-4-4-5 RAM STABLE!

Here are some shots of my P35-DQ6.

Overall, it is a nice board, few quarks here and there. Early testing allowed me to easily sail past 500MHz FSB on a dual core E6320.


I will update the following shortly:

1) How to remove crazy cool on the back of the board correctly
2) Max FSB, Max RAM tests
3) More pics!
4) Any requests anyone has (sorry I dont have any quad core CPU's atm, so cant test that)

They kept the same I/O layout from their P965-DQ6. I personally like the way asus refreshed the rear, I think gigabyte should at least ditch the printer port and add some E-SATA ports. Dual NIC's wouldnt be bad either.

Every cap on P35-DQ6 has a plastic skirt on the bottom for perfect seating and alignment. Something you dont see on any other boards.

Take note of the screws that secure the north and south bridges. Unlike other boards that use plastic clips, you can remove a little more heat with a tighter clamp.

Not sure why they use a MITSUBISHI battery made in China when all other major mobo makers use batteries made in Japan. This sorta bothers me.

This is by far the COOLEST bios feature that gigabyte has introduced. 8 NAMEABLE profiles to save your settings in. Excellent for us RAM benchers.

For those that really need 3.35V of ram voltage. I should note that my multimeter reads about .1 over what it is set. So 2.45 (+.65) reads 2.55 on my multimeter.

More voltage than is really needed, for pretty much any situation. cant complain though, i like options.

Yes, P35-DQ6 got some ram clocking ability. What was only reserved on ASUS boards and 680i boards we see on the P35-DQ6! 4-4-4-5 @ 603MHz DUAL 32M stable (2.5vdimm in bios, 2.6Vdimm REAL)

500MHz+ on the FSB is easy. I hit a wall at 525, not sure if it is the CPU. Same CPU in a commando hit ~550, ill try other CPU's.

Total n00b, but what are those green pins stack up on each other for? The ones in the first picture that look like jumper pins to the left of the "SilentPipe".

heh, that is for the front audio.


Gigabyte made it extra long because of the heatpipe. This way you dont really have to fight plugging it in.

nice.. now the big question for me.. in bios will it show actual voltage/temps instead of the traditional ''Ok" :)

It just shows "OK"..the early 965P-DQ6 bios used to show the actual voltages, but they removed it...pity.

Please post how you accomplished 500x7...as in what bios options you altered.

To reach 444x7 i adjusted the Vcore to 1.3750V and increased the DDR2 voltage to +0.4V, as in 2.2V.

I left the (G)MCH/FSB and PCI-E voltages set to Auto, PCI-E frequency was also set to Auto. Memory timings were manually adjusted to 5-5-5-12.

id buy it just for the fact that they put plastic skirts around all the caps, now thats quality!

thats just the way their doing the Solid capacitors.
its a new way thats for sure but i think its a mfg upgrade to install them easier.
also prevents caps from being bent over.

but it is cool for sure.

Those are the dual BIOS indeed. Gigabyte now uses a serial bus based flashrom for BIOS and there are two of them.

Hi Richard, the two larger chips you are refering two are Pericom P12PCIE switches used for ATI Crossfire.

This is so you dont have to manually use jumpers or a slot card (like on nvidia 650i) to configure SLI/Crossfire.


I am still testing the board, but I hit a firm WALL at ~525. Not really sure what is causing it. On the P5k deluxe, same wall is ~535.

It could be the CPU, but this same CPU I was able to do 550 on ASUS commando. I will try other CPU's later such as E4300 and E6420.

Really nice looking motherboard. I almost had mine last night but FedX screwed up and dropped it off at the wrong place and can't find it.:mad:

The plastic skirts around the caps, will those prevent whining or squealing? How quiet is this board in that regard?

The heatsinks look silly but they do look like they'll do a very good job.

The skirts are just a fancier way to mount. I cant talk about all the advantages simply because i dont know them... but these skirts are what you see on high-end electronics.

I think the squealing comes from coils, someone maybe able to answer better. To me, this board is dead quiet, but I wouldnt know until I put a quad core with 1.5Vcore+

The key is the fact that they are clamped with screws, not push-pins. I think this helps in a HUGE way.

AAAAAAARGH,choices,choices....All those mobo's and i still haven't a clue what to pick....I'm buying around august and so far i had 4 mobo's picked out for my rig,untill this board and teh Msi P35 came out...And now,i still haven't a clue lol

P5K Deluxe is an excellent board. My board died shortly after installing for no reason, but I am RMA'ing and have a new one coming shortly.


Right now I cant recommend. Stick with a 965 based chipset or hang in there for another month. Then decide.
