Mini Pentosin (Worklog) 56K Warning

Well guys... while I'm waiting for my parts to arrive I decided to study a little closer the Blue Pentosin coolant since it's going to be the additive I will use. Also I have been requested to post some pictures.

Putting Pento to the test :D Lets see how well will perform for loops with different metal parts at 10% concentration 1(P)/9(W)

I put in the mix: Zinc screw, copper pipe, a dime, a penny, a piece of speaker cable, galbanized roofing screw and a piece of aluminum. I think this will do it :woot:

Well I have seen very ugly metal reactions after 4 or 5 days.. so I thought will be good to get back after 5 days and so on as long my wife allows me to keep my evil experiments :D around the house. Good thing I have no pets.. that stuff is toxic... but I did not notice any smell at all.. in case someone was wondering.

No destilled water container as control ? Is the aluminum anodized?

Anyway look at the pic from a thread on a german foum Meisterkühler.de, copper pipe and aluminum piece after 2 years and 9 months in G11 (Pentosin) mixture on the left and pure distilled water on the right.

Actually I failed to use distilled water as all I have for now is the Pentosin.. still waiting for all the parts and didn't have chance to get some D Water.. however I thought regular water will accelerate any metal reaction? perhaps I'm wrong with this estatement due to PH? The first intention was just to show the color of the water/pento ratio as I was asked so then I said why not lets just go ahead and do some metal reaction study.

I personally been using a G12+ from BASF for ages, which is also silcate free unlike G11. The G12 (don't mix with G11) and G12+ (G12+ can be mixed with G11) are formulated especially for aluminum engines, so I would think it might be better suited. I know quite a few people which run either G11 or G12 from all kinds of manufacturers in their WC setup and never had a problem, so i assume as long as it meets the standard, the manufacturer is really secondary.

Edit: (G11 can be mixed with G11) replaced with (G12+ can be mixed with G11)

Any way you could get some pictures of the coolant mix being pumped through some tubing? I can't verify that Pentosin is sillicate-free so it might become cloudy in use with Masterkleer tubing.

What about putting a small cut piece of tubing in the mix as well? I would be curious to see if it "Stains" it in anyway.

I don't have the parts with me not even a piece of tubing yet but check this thread... it has some cool pictures with Pentosin in the loop.

I totally agree with you.. I noticed it was formulated for aluminum engine also saw the german link you placed before there was the BASF product picture.. BASF has always made great products as far as I have memory.

Thanks for the link. Pentosin looks nice, that’s for sure. IIRC others reported that Zerex and Water Wetter left a slightly opaque film on their tubing. I have not seen any reports of that with Penstonsin yet.

Not sure how I am going to proceed yet. Optimally straight distilled H20 and a couple drops of dishwashing liquid to kill any "baddies" floating around would be best. I will admit though, the Pentosin is tempting.

Get Pentosin. Its expensive, but whatevers its good stuff. You might wanna see if someone is parting some out cause there's no way you can use up 1.5L of the stuff.

Is Fricofin G12+ (from Fuchs) the same as Glysantin?
Because I picked up a 1,5 L bottle in the Bauhaus in Aachen today, for 3.95€.
It has a lila color, like G12+ is.

Glysantin is the brand name of BASF coolants, if you have a G12+ it should be virtually identical to a Glysantin G12+. The purple color indicates it's a G12+, G12 is red-pink, G11 blue.

The automotive Industry in Germany has lots of standards, if it meets the standard I very much doubt there are any major differences and maybe not even minor ones. Products of the same standard have to be interchangeable without ill effects. The basic composition is the same, and the additives are probably too to guarantee compatability.

Just ordered some of the blue stuff, hope it works well.

I wasn't that sure about it. At an Esso station, they had some own branded bottles which contain Glysantin Protection Plus (=G11). Just to make sure I had something right to bring back, I bought 1 bottle of that too. Color is blue.

Which one would be better to use now, as I have a CC25 reservoir? G12+ or G11?

Guess depends on what color you like best :P Personally i use G12+, but most people i know use G11 and it works just as good.

It has been a little over 3 weeks and so far all the metals look just like the first day.. no corrosion no stains no problem.

So far so good...

One interesting thing is while I was putting my loop together I left some Pentosin mix leftover on a plastic container on the basement and open.

Yesterday as I was working a little bit on drywalling the basement I saw the container and noticed some contamination floating... so I said what the heck... I first I thought hmm maybe are pieces of wood or drywall dust.. as I grabbed the container.. there were lot of little dead ants floating and some still semi alive.... wow.. first I said .. it has been dry and maybe they just went kamikaze with the water... but the interesting part is right next to that container there was another one with regular distilled water... so what's going here? It seems like Pentosin has something that attracts ants.... and obviously kills them.. I kind of tried to smell the container and it does have a little sweet smell very little I wonder if that's why they are getting attracted.

Also the container was an empty winshield liquid bottle I washed very good.

I'll post some pictures of the amphibious invasion later when I get home
