Is it me, or does seem somewhat limited in BIOS settings compared to the DFI Infinity board shown. Less FSB, vdimm and vcore :(

I can tell you Conroe gets very warm with just 1.6v. I can't imagine anyone trying 1.8-1.9v on one of the other boards, especially with anything less than extreme cooling. And having up to 600 FSB in the BIOS like some of the others is pretty meaningless. It's like having a car with a speedometer that goes up to 200mph, when it's only capable to 130. I think people will be lucky to even hit 500 FSB.

Is this supposed to the budget, performance board from Asus for conroe?

I like the lay-out but, is it 400fsb the max for CPU on the P5B? Or is that an issue that has to still be resolved?
Everything else looks good IMO.

True, but 400FSB maxes an E6600 at 3.6Ghz. Not that I would complain about that ;) , but if I was lucky enough to get one of these that were hitting 4Ghz on air, I would be bummed to be FSB bound ;)

Yes, I would want more than 400FSB too. :) Usually that can be fixed with a BIOS update, as was the case with the P5W DH which now has up to 500FSB.
But the people who think they're going to do 600X9 or 600X10 with some of the other boards out there are dreaming.

965 has one large bug. FSB 350+ need to add 2~3 MHz per time. If you add too many MHz, the mobo will be shut down and you need to clean coms.
So I discuss with ASUS RD what problems with 965 chip. ASUS didn't get retail 965 C1 chip, so we are not sure that ES chip has any different for retail 965 C1 chip.
We still wait Intel to get us retail 965 chip and try to solve these bugs.

No doubt, for entry level Conroe buyers FSB is everything. Some are stuck in that old netburst logic. Have to remeber these chips destroy others at a sparingly 2GHz clock. I think Asus will make it right with future BIOS(s) and chips. :crossfingers:

Thanks for the information, Andre. That is a pretty serious bug. Hopefully the retail board won't have that problem.

Does it seem limited in DRAM timings to you guys?? Is that how it is with all Intel boards.. because I'm used to having 20+ timings to play around with on my DFI

Looks like a pretty nice board, I wait for 3D and final retail BMs but otherwise I think I'm sold :)

Most Intel-based boards have only the main timings in the BIOS. You can change the secondaries in Windows using a program like MemSet.

MemSet don't support 965 yet.
7950 GX2 has one bug on 965 chip. So I must delay my 3D post.
7950 GX2 score is only half of 975x. That means is single 7950 GX2 cannot SLI.........I need to discuss with ASUS tomorrow.

Does memset automatically apply timings at startup?
I have faith in DFI's RD600 board, need my mem timings to play with !!

MemSet does have a save function.
Personally I've found the secondary timings on Intel boards to be important only if you're running something like SuperPi. Memory speed is generally much more important. With Conroe, you'll probably be running 1:1 or 4:5. So if your FSB is at 400 and you want to use the 4:5 ratio, you'll need memory that can do 500 (DDR2-1000).
