oh noes! another n00b question..

Ellow from Denmark, peeps. My first post on XS, w00t :cool:

I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on which components to use for my current system (no budget) - see system details in the siggie. I can run it rock stable at 3.2 GHz but I get too high temps for my taste; 56/62 (idle/load - Zalman Reserator 1+)..

(Wrt water cooling I'm a total n00b yet I have read most available guides I could find around the net.. I've been overclocking since Pentium133-days and assembled more systems than I can count, so no worries there)

I'm currently stuck at the following choices:

Fan(s): 120 mm Papst 4412/F2GLL (18 db, 70 cfm)
Rad: D-TEK Pro-120 Core *
Tube: 12 mm, 10 mm inside
Reservoir: D-TEK Bay-Rez 5,25
CPU-WB: EK Wave (AMD64)
Chipset: EK NF4 rev. 1.1
Pump: Laing D5 **

* = Was looking at gocchin's solution with the Antec case but not sure I wanna get into that, so considering a external triple/+.. Prolly Thermochill PA120.3 or a MO-RA 2 Core? :confused:

** = Is it overkill with a D5? I do want lower temps, but on the other hand I dont need a rig under the desk that sounds like an A380 at take-off :nono:

Only thing I know in that array is the rad and the pump - which I was told should be quite noisy, hence the D5 selection.

ddc1+ ant supposed to be noisy! you can take the 10w version instead then! doesnt get much more silent than that(not with any performance atleast!) and its still beats the d5!(well, dont know about the new d5 though)

umm.. I'm thinking about the D5 with a reo on it, same one?

I'm reading up on the Storm V2 as we speak..

I would agrue if the storm is worth the extra money compared to the apogee, when it was $50 it was a fair price but $80...

DDC-1+ with plexi top is quieter than the D5, and a better pump. Take it. DDC-Ultra, is the name they sell the Plus with Plexi-top in europe.

*shrug* Storm is premium. I'd take the "AquaXtreme MP-05 PRO Limited Edition CPU Water Block (delrin)" from extremeprometeia.com, it costs like 25% less than a storm here in the EU/UK - 39£ vs. 55£.

Hmm.. I'm prolly using the wrong webshop then (a danish one), they have a "DDC-1T-PLUS" without the plexi top (at £55) and a "DDC-ULTRA" with plexi top (at £65)..

Is the AE MP-05 Pro LE the same as the Cooltechnica one?

CPU @ 1.475 - sadly temps are too high with this Zalman; 56 idle, 62 load :(

yup, cooltechnica are the manufacturers of AE gear, and E-P are one of the few (only?) EU/UK importers.

Ultra is the one you want, unless you wanna do the 1/2 barb, top inlet mod yourself.

You want the delrin midplate version, not polycarbonate.

Diff between Pro LE and SP LE is SP is more expensive and has brass top.

I read summat about the "t-line" eXa mentioned earlier, so prolly gonna go along with that - I didnt fully understand how ya bleed it tho..

Do you know what the "mcw60" and "mcw30" are?
- I've never seen or heard of "yate loon" fans btw..

MCW30 is the swiftech chipset block. If it fits on your mobo, its the best one around, as it has the lowest restriction oout of all nb blocks.

MCW60 is the swiftech GPU block. Other options are the AE MP-1 (pretty cheap from E-P), DangerDen Maze4, or the Watercool.de GPU-X.

MCW60 is nice if you can fidn the version that comes bundled with the swiftech MCR14 ramsinks - best ramsinks around if youre not gonna have a fan pointed right at them, so generally the best ramsinks for watercooling.

Yate Loons are the best (and cheapest) silent fans around. Check ebay.de for a dude that sells them, theyre like 8€ a pop.

T-Line is the cheapest and most performing way to fill & bleed your loop - just a t-piece set before your pump inlet with a 5+cm piece of tubing you use to fill your loop, capped with something... i use a sawed-off spindle from a dvd spindle. You can see some shots in the thread in my sig.

Well, the Yate Loon's cost roughly the same as the Papst, I listed earlier - and the Papst's are more silent and have a higher output..

I need to find some more EU resellers, atm I'm stuck with danish ones :rolleyes:

No. Best fans for PAs. Theyre what thermochill officialy recommends, even though we cant get them locally in the uk :)

Why would you think 3 yate loons are overkill for a PA120.3?

I have this setup and its sweet. I might not be as sensitive as some, but at 12v the fans are pretty quiet, at 7v you have to be within 20 cm of the fan to hear it.

Haven't tested the Papst but after trying Yates there are just no going back :toast:

just want to add something to it, the price of Yates are unbeatable :)

Cost more, rewound to be slower, rebadged yates. Yate Loon D12SL-12 work down to 3v with no bearing/motor noise or rattling, so there is absolutely no point to nexus fans imo.

I can get Yate shipped from the USA singularly by 48-hour DHL cheaper than i can get a Nexus without shipping here in the UK.

J-Mag here on forums, 5$ each, shipped me 15 for 15$, or up to 5 for 5$ i think. Depending on exchange rate might be cheaper than fleebay germany.

Masterkleer 7/16 tubing. Thin-walled stuff, bends as nicely as thick-walled tygon, cheap, works great. Love the stuff.

Well, I'd feel better than if I was ordering em from fleebay..

So with 7/16 (11,1 mm ID and 15,8 mm OD) is it gonna fit into/onto all components - which kinda fittings should I use? Read summat about push-in being the way to go?

And Pro LE comes with nozzle N02 X Rev. 2 accelerator. SP with nozzle N03 Jets Rev. 2 Accelerator.

But a complete nozzle set cost $5 at cooltechnica/Dtek I think.

Nah, you should check the case thread, some guy here - i think it was pickles - hangs a 120.3 with dual shrouds and 6 fans in push-pull off one of those swifty standoffs.

As for the external radbox, its a Box :p: and you like, put your rad inside it, and sit it next to your pc, with the tubes running between them. I think its fugly, but it works.

Referring to a post on the previous page, if you can get a papst 4412F/2GL or 4412F/2GLL for the same price as a yate loon, the papst is a better fan. It is just as quiet with higher static pressure and will last much longer. I have both and the build quality of the papst is outstanding. In the states a papst 4412/2GL costs ~ $25 when you can find them. A yate loon is ~ $7 if that much. The yate loon is a better value in the states, but not a better fan. The other problem with yate loons is that sample to sample consistency is not as high as with nexus and papst. But you can usually get 2 or 3 yate loons for the price of a nexus.

I thought Extreme Prometia was the only store in Europe selling this block, but Danish vcore.dk sells the D-TEK MP-05 Pro LE, they also sell the nozzle kit. I like vcore.dk, they sell lots of barbs and if they don't have the one you're looking for they will get it for you. The support is great, even at weekends! They also sell ThermoChill and the DDC-Ultra.

Itll fit any P4 or s754/939 AMD mobo at any rate, and quite a few others too. Universal mounting.

quick conclusion: all the fans are basicly alike when theyre on the same rpm! very small difference...

CFM/RPM = self explanatory. "Pris" = Price. The noise levels in "(målt)" are the measured values compared to the factory db's.

Yate Loon D12SL-12 is a really good fan, closely related to its cousin, the Nexus. Its a good allround fan, which can be used as both case fan and mounted on a large CPU cooler. Its not quiet at 12V, but when lowered to 5V, its practically noise-free.

Papst 4412 F2GLL is a really good fan, which in terms of noise ranks amongst the most silent. Therefore its not without reason, many Papst fans are sold in Denmark and throughout Europe. For noiseless operation, the voltage must be lowered, but so must other fans as well.

I would choose Yate Loon D12SL-12 over Papst. I have different Papst fans and I have changed them all to other fans as my Papst did vibrate quite a lot.

I'm very happy with my Yates.
Scythe S-FLEX I don't know about.

Oh btw, how can I mount the PA120.3 on top of the case if decide not to use the swiffy standoff in the rear?

Mod it? Use some Self-taping screws to bolt it down. Or use custom standoffs if you dont what the air to go out of / into the case.
