Hey guys. I just can't seem to find myself buying DFI anymore. It seems that every motherboard has one annoying bug that I constantly notice. My NF3 had some wierd usb mouse issue, while my new NF4X, which will get sent back when I pick a new suiter, seems to not like me fiddling in the bios. In fact, you can enter the bios, not change a thing, not save your changes, and it will fail at the reboot (what i mean is, when it reboots after exiting bios, it halts right after displaying CPU info :stick: ).

So, does anybody know of a motherboard capable of decent overclocking (I'm not some phase change using psycho like some of you guys... and I mean that in a good way :banana:) but has a relatively bugfree setup. It can be a bit barbaric, or have undesirable features, or even lack desirable features, but all of them must work as advertised and the board must work exactly as I'm told by the company it will. So far I've yet to find a DFI board that is bugfree and if you say anything about it on DFI-street they nail you to the cross... :eek:

So no more dfi for me. Any suggestions? By the way, the above link looks good, but I can't find any reviews. It seems to be a mock of the SLI-DR, but I wonder how good it is.

First off, why does it OC better, and secondly, I do have an interest in SLI.

i've ordered a tforce4 ultra yesterday. look over @ [H]. there is a big thread about biostar tforce-boards.
the sli/ultra also are good overclockers, but you wont find as much informations than for the 6100-939.

Very good OC! It is better then Asus A8N-SLI.
TForce4 SLI one of the best S939 mobos...

MSI SLI platinums are also good, i have one and they overclock nice
not as good as dfi though

any tipps before i start the board the first time?

Then I guess I'll grab one. This NF4X needs to go... and I gain dual channel with the switch. The question now is, should I go dual core too, or should I stick with single core. The dual core will help Quake 4, now that they finally gave us linux users support for SMP... but it's also quite expensive.

I have the s754 version of this board and have nothing but good things to say about it. It got my Sempron 2800+ to 2.2GHz easily and probably would of went much farther if my CPU was a better overclocker. I could get it a little higher, but it wouldn't be completely stable and I don't feel comfortable running such a high voltage to make it stable.

so, got the board yesterday! its great! more infos later!

I ended up buying an Abit NV8 after getting completely fed up with the NF4X. I haven't been let down yet... great board. :D

i had the 939 tforce i did not have the M version though or whatever the new version is its the mATX board but they changed to a new version. i never heard anything about it though.

overclocking is iffy 275-ish seems to be what alot of people are getting.

performance wise and such not too shabby.. but there is no HTT or chipset voltage anymore they removed it, atleast on mine they did on this new version i have not heard if the chipset voltages are there.
i do know they lock the chipset voltage really low so that it keeps the overclocking down lower.
no one has hacked the bios that i know of.. all they would have to do is unlock that setting and you could get higher
its a rock solid board though the TForce 6100/6150 is a nice chipset though, dfinately the best 939 mATX board.

the 754 version is actually supposed to overclock better.

I set up the biostar tforce sli board for my neighbor 2 weeks ago.he has a venice 3500 and corsair pc 3200c2 xms ram.he has only 1 video card now but wants to go sli this summer.he has a powercolor nvidia 6800gt
video card.he also bought a pcp&c silencer 470 p/s.all i can say is this board o/clocks like mad. set the multiplyer at 10 and inched up the htt to 265 running 1.42v cpu and 2.70 on the ram..its running at 1T timing and at 3,3,3,8 settings on the ram.any thing over 268htt it wont load windows.he wants to run 1 to 1 so i didnt fool with a divider on the final settings.i set the ram to 266 and had the cpu booting at 10x290.i could have gone higher but its not my rig and didnt want to add more volts and blow something.he is happy at 2650mhz 1 to 1.he is a hold over from the socket a days with fsb.oh well.this board will do what ever your cpu will allow.what a great board.good layout,good bios,and so far no issues at all.it will have no problem at all going over 300htt.if 939 wasnt going away id for sure get this or the ultra version as i dont sli,not much of a gamer myself.i would without hesitation reccomend this board to anyone looking for an o/clockers board.imo it o/clocks as good as most dfi boards i believe.i have an asus a8n-e and i love this board but this biostar o/clocks easier than my asus.if you have a windowed case the biostar looks cool with the color combinations.i have read user reviews on these tforce boards and its hard to find a bad review.go for it as you really cant go wrong,biostar has a winner here.im real curious to see the tforce am2 boards from biostar.may but one of them instead of dfi this time around.ive never seen a more problem plagued set of boards come out and seen so many people make excuses for them like they were build by christ himself.too many issues for the money they get for them and i dont think they have a good q/c dept test them,just too many issues.the p/supply cold boot issue should have been caught no matter what dfi says.according to dfi its never a problem with the board its everybody else that screwed up.makes me laugh.i really wish there was a group gathering to file a class action suit against dfi for putting out such a defective set of boards,and make them pay for the hardware that their boards took with them.but its not a board problem,its everyone else.no one knows how to set up a dfi board correctly,even the engineers who do this for a living and post rite here on these forums....dfi ,I spit on you.........were not idiots out here but some of your arrogant excuses tend to piss off the ones out here who do know what there doing and have to listen to you tell us we dont know how to set up a board correctly.....................

The ultra version may very well perform worse due to the XGP slot. WOuld that not be the case?

i set up an ultra version and it o/clocked higher than i had the sli version.i liked the ultra better due to layout.plus i had a 7800gt video card which takes up an extra slot with the cooler and the only thing i lost was access to the xgp slot.i had the ultra version to 310 htt with a didvide and was using a 3200 venice e3.i ran an agp card just to see how it performs and it sucked.it uses the pci bus ayt 33.3 mhz.it works but you would only run it as long as it took to save up for a pcie card,even if it were an x300 pcie.i build computers for a living and see all different kinds of boards and from my experience as far as ultra boards go the asus a8n-e is my favorite,next the biostar tforce ultra,next the msi ultra platinum and next which i hate to admit is the dfi ultra d the ado version the latest but be prepared its a bit of work but it dosent take out cpu's like the expert does.i was very impressed with the biostar boards.the sli boards i like are the asus a8n series,ive had perfect results with all of them .the biostar sli tforce,msi has a good one out now for 100.00$,and the abit k8n sli is good bang for the buck too.i cant really see how you can go wrong with any of the asus or biostar boards.the only thing i dont care for is the silent boards with heatpipes as they run so much hotter than the fan models which i prefer.you need very good case cooling with the heatpipe models to get temps down to the fan models which defeats the purpose of the heatpipe for silence. now you have your fan noise back.kinda a catch 22.the asus boards give you 500-600mhz o/clocks with stock voltages or just slightly above stock.they are rock solid even when o/clocked.but if you want more of a dfi kind of o/clock then the biostar tforce boards are my next choise.and dfi if you know what your getting into as really they are usually alot of work to get them fast and stable.and you better buy the reccomended parts if you dont want even more headaches.......................whatever you do,,,do not buy the expert model..wait till the version of the venus comes out,the mainstream model not the 300.00 limited edition one.i keep reading more and more about it.they seem to be ok and more ram friendly,they may call it the expert rev b instead of venus......

I switched from a DFI to this board and found it to be much easier to deal with. No more random restarts or messed up dividers. There are a lot less options, but I've found it has been a good change.

Then it will be my first board when I attempt socket 939 here soon. A close friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer in both lungs, so I'm parting my PC and gonna build a relatively cheap PC to raffle off for like, 20$ a ticket or something. Hopefully I can eek out a tiny upgrade to 939, draw in some cash for a friend and not suffer too much...

And it stands to reason that nobody would pay excessively more because it was dual core or pentium D... so overspending wouldn't help all that much. After all the goal is to make more than I spend.

This is what I could do on mine. I'm sure the board could do more,but my 2800+ is locked at X8 so the chip was maxed with only 1.76V.

Sup homie? But yeah, these tforce boards are looking like great replacements for ex-dfi users turned off by various things (ugly ass linux incompatibility for me and consistently releasing buggy boards).

i got 400x4 (clockgen in windows). was running superpi8m stable, dont tested further!

So the board can reach high HTT [ FSB ] but I reard that it is not possible with all cpus even if the cpu can reach a high HTT ... I was told the board is very picky with cpus and memory

ANyone seen an Opteron 165 OC in the 300s HTT on the Tforce 939?

Actually, the board is quite good. THe only drawback so far is this: Horrible translations. Everything about the board, from the advertising campaign to the bios has mispellings or poor grammar.

I am using the Tforce4ASLI. It does not include an onboard video solution. The board you may want to look at is the Tforce-6100.

For some reason, when I updated my bios, this board really started sucking. And the typos are really getting on my nerves, so I am back to the drawing board. And I can't find the original bios... so meh.

i ran mine for almost 5 months. excelent little board, i would go a month and a half between reboots. ran a 3700+ @ 2.65 stock vcore (mine undervolted quite badly so i had to up the voltage untill it was actually stock) 285x 10 is all i got with a devider. 0515 cabge san diego was the chip. need to use a modded bios for the board to clock well, tbonz at {h} had one done up that i used.

only thing i didnt like about the board was the drivers were not at nvidia.com or part of there unified drivers, i had to use the older ones on the cd.

onboard software fan controler was nice, reset switch and power switch on board (no jumpers) and memtest 86+ in the bois was just like dfi. small size with lots of features i originally used a 7800gt and it was flawless, than went to a 7900gt and finally onboard video. dirt cheap, everyone should buy one to at least try. i think i paid around $55 for mine from zipzoomfly in the winter.

modded bios? can you use it for the tforce4 ultra?

I read something about the biostar boards being incompatible with Linux. I have the s754 tforce 6100 and Linux (gentoo 64bit) runs like a charm. The only thing that doesnt work are the temp sensors. At least I havent managed to get them working.
And the S754 board impressed me a lot. :)

Is there anything like Smartgaurdian for the Tforce board. I installed many times both the Tforce HW utility and fan utility but they will not work.

I do not like MB monitor, just a simple window like DFI smartgaurdian ... I need to monitor temps while I test for a stable oc

Also, I do not have a floppy installed so I installed the Biostar windows flashing program, is it safe to update the bios with this or with winflash which I also installed from the utility cd

Anything I have to do after updating the bios with those programs?

Anyway, my tforce board went back, in a word: Sucks. In three: Spelling errors everwhere.

And well, I am simply incapable of trusting a company that can't spell half the rather small words in the bios options. I'm sorry, but Integrated is used throughout thier product, and they mispelled it EVERY time that I could see... and well... look at the ads:

"What Charge Up Your Game?"

And the board doesn't clock that well, to be honest. It's not much more than a cheap knock-off... and the SLI-DR I'm testing now is infinitely better, and much more reliable.

I got mine to oc the 165 to the same HTT as the Ultra -d would with the amount of volts I am willing to give it with the retail heatsink and fan

The board definately does not read temp and volt data correctly. I t reports way higher than my Ultra -d with the same cpu, stepping heatsink, and fan. The volts are also much higher

Anyways, I pluged a fan into jsfan1 but I can not seem to control it with speedfan, any ideas

I'm using the ITE smartguardian with my Tforce board.
I've modded the config file a little.
Not the best in the world , but it does the job for me.

Vcore is not very stable with this board and dual core cpu's.
I have set vcore to 1.65v in the bios, resulting in 1.6vcore quasi stable.
No vcore problems for me with single core cpu's and this board.

You have to download the Biostar toold from their website, because the ones that came with the board aint compatible to SP2. They dont work on Win2k too, but the latest ones do.

This is odd. I have 2 Opteron 165 with the same stepping, same stock heatsink and fan. One is on an Ultra - d and the other is on a Tforce 6100 939

On the Ultra -d, when idling, the temps report much lower and I think more accurate because i have seen tons of smartgaudian screen grabs from other users and they are are all the same. The temps are 30 - 32 celc

On the Tforce, when idling, the temps are 37 - 39 celc

Are you also geting these idling temps on your Tforce? If not then maybe I have seated the heatsink the wrong way ... I have the heatpipes towards the middle of the board

Your posts critical of Biostar's poor spelling are riddled with so many spelling errors, including misspelling "misspell" in more than one case, that I assume you've done it on purpose for the sake of humor. Mission accomplished, this thread brightened my morning. :)

Game at high res with modern games, the FPS can go unbearably low unless you have a dual GPU config:stick:

Like at 1920 x 1080 on that new big LCD?

1600x1200 is enough, when you want to play with af+aa and all max details you will see a huge performance-increase with sli!

Are you pointing out that you were incorrect, as "mispell" at dictionary.com had one entry, which pointed you to the correct spelling of the word, and no definition

It's defined as a word interchangable with misspell and misspend. It's a real word. Our language is full of words that have been accepted after spelling revisions, and some that have just plain been butchered.
